Cook won the toss on nine consecutive occasions. As I right in thinking that the odds on this happening are 512/1?

No.

It's actually a virtual certainty if you are captain long enough. If I can be bothered I might work out the probability of doing it in the number of games he has been captain though.

Is it true he hasn't actually called any of them?

In theory surely it's 9 even money shots off the trot hence 512/1
??

I remember when I played blackjack on online casinos. Had 17 consecutive losing hands once. Now that is long odds

That's if you are looking at any particular 9 consecutive tosses. However, if you start tossing coins, if you continue long enough you can find a sequence of any number of consecutive heads or tails.

If you toss a coin 100 times I think it's about evens that you get a sequence of 7 or 8 consecutive heads or tails, or alternatively that you would call correctly. So it's not that unusual in the long run.

However, if it's his first 9 ODIs then 1/512 is your answer. But am I right that as the home skipper he hasn't called any of them?
