Credit to the game and I'm with the OP, I just about rate him higher than Tendulkar, certainly at test level anyway.

Agreed.

The more the commentators have talked about Tendulkar in this series the less I've rated him. Not because of his batting, he's just been out of nick in this series, but when he just sits out on the fence in the field and doesn't get involved with the team and refuses to bat anywhere else in the team other than 4 meaning the whole batting order has to be moved around.

Dravid on the other hand has spent most of this series batting out of position, fields at slip, is always involved and just generally puts more into the game.

To be fair to Tendulkar, when he's fielded at mid-on he's always been in the bowlers ears, offering advice, and I think even some of the commentary team were baffled as to why Dhoni kept putting him out on the boundary (Age perhaps?), but there is a section of Indian cricket fans who think that India perform better when Tendulkar fails, as when he doesn't it tends to become all about him.

Tendulkar is one of the greats, technically he's near perfect, but if you need big runs in a tough situation, under pressure then Dravid has always been your man.

Laxman is very underrated, I'm a big fan, but think Dravid is still a better player.

Laxman is very talented but hes not on the same planet as Dravid and Tendulkar when it comes to batting. At times Laxman seems as if he hasnt got the brain he was born with getting out pulling with a man back at least twice in the series.

A slightly better Carl Hooper

Bold call that like

He has got out stupidly at times during this series but is usually excellent under pressure and scores important runs when needed.

Carl Hooper was one of my favourite players growing up, but for him read Ian Bell up until 2008, beautifully elegant but would just get out.
