Cook will outshine Boycott by the end of his career by a long way

Is this the same Boycott who Ian Botham was specifically instructed to delibirately run out when going out to bat with him in New Zealand because he was being selfish and scoring too slowly to the detriment of the team.

Boycott was dropped for slow scoring against India having hit just over 100 in the first day's play, IIRC. He scored 100 and odd before lunch on the second day mind.

He does like to be controversial does Boycs.

Got run out by his own team-mate for scoring too slow.

Edit: Beaten to it.

Boycs is right , as usual. Despite the fact he was a slow batsman himself.

I hope Cook further develops his game as he approaches the prime of his career, much like Matt Hayden did.

I'm really struggling to understand these theories about Cook. He batted two and a bit days for nearly 300 at a strike rate of 50. Pietersen, Morgan, Prior and Bell score at a quicker rate to keep us scoring at above 3.5 an over which is perfectly fine in five days of cricket. England batted and left themselves two and a bit days to bowl India out and now they are 3 down with two days to play.

With the above in mind, and a 3-1 series victory in Australia behind us (where Cook batted in a similar fashion), what is the big deal about Alistair Cook's strike rate? It's crackers to be honest. If it was costing us wins then fair enough but if anything it's gaining us wins

On a separate not if we win by an innings, Cook will have been on the field for every minute of play.

Is this as rare as it sounds it might be?

It was a bit stop/start anarl yesterday with the 10 minute breaks here and there for the rain. Couldn't have been easy to get into a rythmn of any sort.

Geoff Boycott at Trent Bridge in 1977 did it and that was over 4 innings - last man out in England first innings and undefeated in the second. Think we won by 9 wickets.

I must admit I like Boycs and he knows his stuff as much as anyone but he pissed me off yesterday with regards to Morgan. It started off fair enough pointing out uncertainty in Morgams technique against the moving ball and how hes not sure if hes the answer coming in at 60/4 against the moving ball. All fair enough but he went on and on about it all day and Blowers as usual was sucking his cock agreeing with every word. Whaever his faults and however valid the criticism here was Morgan getting a 100 for england and his game was being taken apart all day.

The Cook criticism was also ridiculous.

Listening to the Podcast his criticism of Cook was mild. And against any other team Morgan would have been out three times for his 104.

As I said the criticism of Morgan in isolation was fair as well in fact it was spot on - the point about him being 3 for 104 was also raised. However I listened to the commentary for the entire Boycott/Blofeld spell and it went on forever to the extent that no other aspects of the game were discussed. Perhaps the criticism of Morgan could have been balanced by the fact that he did knuckle down, he did get a 100 and he did make the most of his lives.

The stats might show it but reckon they will be a few who will argue that Geoffrey was the better better, batter attacks, uncovered pitches etc

Just out of interest from the start to the end of his Boycotts test career how many years or test matches did he miss for self imposed exiles etc

Chris Tavare, now there was an opener that used to like to cart it round to all parts in the first 10 overs.

Took 66 balls to get off the mark against Australia once.

Seem to remember 'Statto' Angus Loughran carrying a chair out to him during a home Pakistan series.
