Now I'd imagine that some would be 2nd or even 3rd generation Indians, who have genuine Indian roots; but should they not be supporting England if they were indeed born on these shores.

Nassar Hussain made the point in his book that when playing Pakistan at Headingley, it can be like playing in Karachi (he didn't say that but it was implied) owing to the large number of Pakistani "supporters" who were all born in England.

Personal choice, or wrong?

Fair enough the 2nd/3rd generation Indians will still have family and/or connections in India but would they class themselves as Indians or British away from the cricket ground?

Was going to post the same thing. It's pissing me off, either your English or your Indian surely ???

It opens a massive can of worms this thread though.

It does indeed.

In my opinion, you pick one alliance and stick with it.

I find them annoying as well. For such fanatical cricket fans I only heard them cheer when their team score a boundary.

Lucky boundary = OTT cheers
Good shot but well stopped by good fielding = nowt

Seems like they want to rub England supporters noses in it every time something goes there way.

Never understand the bollocks commentators spout about how fanatical they are in the sub continent, they never ever fill a ground for a test match:oops:

Ive got a mate who was born in Hull, loves her cricket and all of her family are from India.

She's India through and through, can't see the problem with it. If i moved abroad, i'd hope my kids supported England.

Hope we stuff em so I can wind her up too

Cricket is so deeply interwoven into the fabric of Indian society that it's almost impossible to make any kind of comparison with anything else

Give over man. People can support who they want as long as they stick by them.

Have you thought that maybe it's nice for them to feel some connection to their heritage?

agreed.

But my point of view (and some others) view on here is that the Indians are not necessarily connoisseurs of the game they are like football fans as they will cheer a thick-edged four rather than a magnificent stop by an opposition fielder

Been to a few games involving sub continent sides, and they generally cheer anything at all their team does however shite it really is, and constantly boo the opposition....clueless is an understatement.

Does not surprise me tbh, just because its the great game of cricket it does not make it any different to football support imo.

How can you enjoy a sport if you are tribal like that?
