I dont think Taunton is a good ground for spin. Plus, Somerset need to beat us if they want any chance of winning the league so there will probably be a bit more in the pitch than the traditional batsmans paradise, hence the extra seamer (Mitch), who has picked up the wicket.

Of course, this could all be completely wrong

you are wrong they wont employ Kartik, arguably the 2nd best spinner on the circuit behind Tahir and then produce seaming wicket.

Durham have seen the weather and dampness and plumped for the extra seamer

Taunton is usually a bit of a nightmare for spinners with the short boundaries, even Mendis took a hammering in one game down there this season, although I'm not sure having only Blackwell as a spin option is enough.
 
Time to set about getting 600 and then knocking them over for 110 in the 2nd innings now ;)
