I was thinking this during the week. I don't think Mustard would mind too much giving way to Colly for a season or two. The Colonel could always be the vice captain and I am sure Colly would take him under his wing and give him some tips which would hopefully help him if he resumed the captaincy when Colly eventually retires.
No reason why Colly shouldnt be DCCC captain for the next couple seasons til he retires if thats what he wants. Mustard just doesnt impress me (he was laughable last season) and the results are more down to good bowling than any great captaincy atm. IMHO
it's Luke Sutton's job that mate and no one is coming in to take it off him.
sources down here in Derbyshire reckon the new chairman has a few quid and wants a Marquee signing for next season.
DCCC = Durham.
Not really a secret about the promise of a big signing, he ran on it when he was elected. Problem (for Derby) is, Colly has two overseas contracts for next year which Durham will work around, plus he has strong business and family links in the North East.
Plus, Derby is where players go to die.
Now I'm not saying it definitely won't happen, but the money they will have to offer is huge, far more than it's worth. It would be a disaster to Derby and would completely destablise the club.
Durham's County contract with T20 deals in India and Oz will actually mean a pay rise.
Don't panic, there's nothing in this.
Thank God. We need to keep him here. When he's finished playing, we should employ him as a coach.
I hope we can find room for both Colly and Benks in our coaching set up in the not too distant future. I suspect both of them would make good long term replacements for when Cook retires.

Just a little sub-plot perhaps, Derbyshire have confirmed they won't be offering Greg Smith, probably their most consistent player over the last couple of seasons, a new contract as they claim they can't offer him what he wants, although Smith has said the club are focusing more on using the money to bring in Collingwood, rather than using it to offer him the deal he wants.
Essex are supposed to be in for Smith according to their boards

I've heard that too, Essex and Notts supposedly interested. Would be a decent signing for anybody, averaging over 40 in the last 3 years and a steady bowler.
Looks like they are putting all their eggs in one basket. Considering what Collingwood has said when interviewed about a move to Derby, it sounds like he's going to stay here for next season at least, so they could be losing their key player and not getting a replacement in.
Certainly sounds to me as if Derbyshire are trying to put together a very attractive package to entice Collingwood, even if it means losing some of their better current players. Risky strategy but stranger things have happened and I think if they offer Collingwood the captaincy with potential coaching roles to follow, he may well be tempted, but having said that I do think he wants to ideally finish off here if Durham can afford to keep him.
Colly has hardly set the world alight since returning to Durhams colours. At 35 and considering he has barely played for us over the last 5 years, would he be that big a loss?
He must have played 3 championship games max, and he scored a century in one of them. I know what you are saying and they could more than likely get by without him, but I think Benkenstein may pack up at the end of the season and what greater role model to take over his role than Colly?. I watched him in the T20 against Northants the other week and his fielding and overall demeanour in the field must set a superb example to the younger players.
