Durham Question

Why have they been picking Rushworth over Onions in the T20?. Fair enough to an extent if they were wanting to protect Onions after his injury worries, but surely you should pick your best bowlers for must win games no matter what.

I raised this issue last night, I guess it was easy of me to criticise following his poor bowling last night but IMO he offers the side very little. I have no agenda with him, I want him to do as well as any other Durham'er when wearing the shirt!

I'd prefer Onions and/or Thorp if Durham want a 'seamer'. Otherwise why not play another batsman..... We used 8 bowlers last night and over the last few games 'taking the pace off' has been the most succesful.

I'll be honest, I've not seen a great deal of the lad bowl, but when I have, he hasn't looked a bad bowler but he seems to bowl a lot of full length outswingers which in T20 which usually go for a lot as there's no gully's/slips and the boundaries are in so it's difficult for your third man to cut them off. Nothing against the lad but Onions is one of the best seamers in the country and that pitch last night had a bit in it when Carter and Woakes were bowling so I couldn't work out how they had come to the conclusion Rushworth was worth a place and Onions wasn't.

Durham's priority this season is the LVCC.

Onions/Harmison/Thorp (although not a OD bowler) & Diva all rested for most or all of the 20/20.

Onions has been sat in the dugout for a lot of T20 games, kitted up, almost looking like 12th man. The other 3 I'd not expect to be involved and haven't even been around the squad. Onions bowled one of the best T20 spells from an out and out seamer I've seen away at Northants this season.

My only guess is slight injury.

It's a strange one like.

Is that the official line from the club? Fair enough if so just found it strange that he was sat kitted out in the dugout.

Nowt official.

Onions could of travelled on Sunday to Yorkshite with every intention of playing, pulled up in the warm up or something. Then as the team are on a coach and were going straight down to Edgbaston he travelled with them.

Will Smith and Rocky were also all kitted up.

Possibly, I reckon Smith was official 12th man as he's a good fielder, either way these conspiracy theories don't really excuse not picking Onions ahead of Rushworth for most of this T20 campaign ;)

Rushworth has as many wickets as Claydon, at a better average with a better ecomony tbf.

Claydon bowled well tonight, albeit against a very poor Northants team. He took 3 wickets, was very economical and even bowled a maiden which must be very rare in T20.

I'm sure he will step down when they start playing in the whites again as Harmy, Onions and Thorp are better than him in the 4 day format. However, he is a very reliable understudy and would probably be an automatic pick for any other county.

I was losing faith in him after the Yorks game but the last 2 games he has performed and IF we make the QF, he deserves his spot.

I agree. I suspect the team that beat Northants is probably our strongest T20 line-up. Just need to tinker with the order of the top 6 to get Benks in earlier.
