Does anyone really believe India called off a chase with 7 wickets in hand, needed only 80 odd in 15 overs for anything else other than they were on about 50k a man to draw the game

on a par with Cronje declaration if not worse

seems strange that india wouldnt go for a run chase of any description. they only needed 80 from 15 overs but maybe they wanted to secure the series first.
 
I am not saying match fixing occured but it was extremely stange to say the least that there wasnt a little more effort to chase the total.

I know, a bit strange really. It's not as if the pitch was a Bunsen burner or anything. A hundred odd to knock off in the last day to win the series 2 nowt would sound good to me if I was the Indian captain. Only Edwards/Bishoo looked remotely threatening this series fro the West Indies.

You got this the wrong way round mate. India couldn't just call off the game. You should be asking why the windies didn't want to have a go at taking the last 7 wickets. They had to agree to the draw, when they had everything to gain by trying to level the series. India could only lose their series win by playing on, they were obviously happy with 1-0.

They had plenty of time to knock the runs off like. Matt Floyd was very surprised about the end of the game when it happened.

Bollocks, sometimes you don't half talk rubbish. It was in India's interest to end the game there and then to ensure a 1-0 series win. Playing on, they needed 86 in 15 overs against a test attack with test fields with no restrictions. Yes it might have been possible, but going at that rate, taking risks, they might also have lost the last 7 wickets and windies would have squared the series. I mean, 6 an over in test cricket? Happens all the time doesn't it?

However, they needed the agreement of the windies to walk off at that point, and they had every incentive to at least try to take the wickets. Unless they were on the 50K to draw.
 
IMO they should have had a go. They could have easily shut up shop if they were 6 down. If England had done that there would have been hell on, on this board.

I agree it doesn't look good and I hope there was nothing going on. Can't wait for the tests in a few weeks.

But why would they do that when they can walk off with the series when they did. You need to be asking the windies why they didn't want the win.

Anybody who thinks 6 an over with your top 3 gone, in a test match, in the windies, is some sort of doddle has been watching too much T20 or knows nowt about the game.

Previous 3 innings in the same match, 873 runs in 317 overs or thereabouts.

Agree with this. I thought it was a shite day for test cricket. They're banging on about day/night tests, pink balls, etc. India had the chance to put on a good show and provide a cracking finish and muffed up.

Having put money on India, I watched the betting closely. India went from evens to 11/5 in one jump..

A good reason why you aren't nor ever likely to be captain of India. Even more than the fact you aren't Indian.

Why does everybody think that on a pitch at a new test venue giving up significantly less than 3/over for 4⅚ days, a team 1-0 ahead in the series is suddenly going to run the risk of losing it by hoying the bat for an hour chasing 6 an over?

It was the windies that called off that game, not India. Is anybody criticising them and asking why they gave up the chance of squaring the series, which was just as likely as India getting the runs?
