I looked it up years ago and I'm sure Newcastle finished 8th or 9th that season, none of the clubs that finished above them participated ergo it was a piss pot tournament!

It's well documented and widely recognised that our qualification for the fairs cup was down to the one club per city rule. So with a team ill equipped to challenge remotely for the first division we managed to win a European competition. Well done us. Four years later you gained entry into the cup winners cup, another competition that has been dumped due to the randomness of the quality of the competitors, and you did what? Our first chance at Europe and we played a blinder while you lot were an utter embarassment. How did you get on the next time you played in Europe?
