dirty green mags

The Mags dominance of the North-East was ended by the managerial genius of Ricky Sbragia in 2009. An era iin which they had bought from Real Madrid and dined at the top table of European football was ended by the Great Man, truly one of the heroes in SAFC history.

And they gave him his P45 for finishing 4th ;):lol::lol:
5th wasn't it ?. It was very similar in the way many SAFC fans saw what was happening during the second season you finished 7th under Reid. It seems like a good position but you just know things have changed for the worse and their needs to be a change. fwiw I don;t remember hearing any chants against Sir Bob but there certainly was a section during the close season who thought we progress more with someone else (not Souness though!)

they certainly are when you get one of them coming on here trying to clsim the moral high ground saying they are the better ran club

We are outspending them (well that isn't difficult as they chase a £1m welshman) and I expect us to outperform them this season.

It must be like when Keegan was here and they were spending millions on good players while we hunted around the bargain basement, love it

You expected to turn us over on 31st October. You got dicked.

Let's just wait and see what happens eh?

Friendly Fire doing a sterling job here. Counteracting newspaper rumour and urban myths with cold hard facts. The day they said a big story from Newcastle emerging I thought it was we'd signed Rooney. Never dreamed it was going to say he was going. That said, I thought it was time for him to move upstairs at the end of the 5th finish season. Think it suits the knackers and the press to associate any discontent shown at the ground to whatever agenda they have. I's a bit like Arsenal this season. Thousands leaving the ground was the report, and there's no doubt that some people did. The vast majority stayed and the people shown leaving were those doing their normal 25 minute in walk to the bogs to have a piss. The complete lack of photos of vast areas of empty seats proves that the press reports were bollocks. The stories about Robson getting booed were bollocks as well. That said I found the outpouring of grief at his passing nauseating as he did nothing special at Newcastle.

How many of those 8 have you managed to hound out?

No wonder national radio stations are slaughtering your support.

Peter Reid - probably a lack of support from fans led to him leaving, but considering he was dropping players because he fell out with them, was apparently dodgy and took us from two 7th place finishes to 17th by buying ridiculously overpriced flops, I can understand it a bit. Frustration.

Howard Wilkinson - 19 points, no team in the land wouldn't want him out.

Mick McCarthy - 15 points, no team in the land wouldn't want him out.

Kevin Ball - Loved by the fans, not hounded out, stepped in to do a caretakers job. Still at the club and thought of highly.

Niall Quinn - Wasn't a serious appointment, stepped into to do a job while we looked for a real manager. Only there for five games, never booed (how could we boo after what he had just done for us?) - still at the club and looked on as a saint.

Roy Keane - Was a God here to start with and his management style was applauded. Then, when things went wrong and he had no plan B and went a little bit insane he, and the team, came in for some stick for gutless performances. Walked away from the club when the going got tough. Opinion is split on him, some love him, some don't.

Ricky Sbragia - Like Quinny and Ball, stepped in to do a job. A job I don't think he wanted anyway. He wasn't booed, he led us to a draw at your place (after Taylor cheated) and kept us up (as you went down) - was relieved of managerial duties at the end of the season and rightly so.

Steve Bruce - Has had support pretty much. Widely regarded by Sunderland fans as brilliant in the transfer market, but there are some concerns over his tactics from time to time. The team have been booed, and I imagine Brucey has been booed from time to time too, although I've never heard a large section of the crowd explicityly having a go at him - it's more just 'Brucey you fat bastard' or something about him being a geordie. But then again, with a rivallry like ours, where you come from and who you support will always alienate some of the fans.

So... to answer your question... not many were hounded out really. At least not to the extent say Big Sam was at your place. True, nobody wants to watch Big Sam's football, but he'd have had you solidly mid table for a while before you could have replaced him.

Newcastle fans have a history of rewriting history.

Whenever there's a protest, a banner, a bedsheet or any booing they'll claim, in hindsight, that it was just 'a handful of idiots' ............... that's nonsense and they know it.

The defence is to ask how many people spat at Bobby Robson or booed him/the players/the board as if people could possibly know .......... the fact remains that, no matter who wanted Robson out or not, there wasn't a murmur of complaint when he was booted out of the club.

Why?

Because the fans had got so carried away with themselves, after being fed all the crap about the job being one of the top in world football, the seemingly endless money and the whole pathetic 'Geordie Nation' shite.

I was so sickened by people puffing their chests and using that phrase at the time but try to get just one Mag to admit they used it and they'll claim no one ever did.
As I said it's just more of the famous rewriting of history, just as some of them will claim, without a shred of shame, that they won the UEFA Cup

And in time that will change to the European Champions league no doubt

Are you saying he wasn't wanted out by the majority of fans?

I've asked you this before, were there any protests at the time?

I don't even think you're old enough to have been there.
I think you're just repeating what you've been told. I don't know exactly how many Newcastle fans spat at Robson but they were Mags.

If i remember correctly both Robson and Keegan had a lot of mags wanting them sacked.

Rose coloured specs im afraid.

This.

All of the protests, boycoutts and supporters trusts have come to this.

We're now at a point where the idiots are actually defending Ashley and Pardew

They've just seen Nolan walk, and Ba come in, and they've barely raised a whimper.
They must be looking at that squad like we used to in the bad old days and knowing that the season will be shite .............. Ashley will make them squirm until they look like those disgusting half donkey/half maggot creatures they have on the club badge :-D

Its a big gamble by Pardew. The french kids signed have been recommended by Tiote and Ben Arfa so must have something about them. They are slashing their debt by getting rid of the higher paid players and investing in the younger talent, however it would count for nothing if they are relegated.

They could set the league alight or they might struggle like Riveros.

Everyone criticised SAF when he sold the likes of The Guv'nor and brought in Giggs Beckham Scholes etc. man Utd have not looked back since.

I just wish the first derby match was later in the season to get the early season fluke results out of the way.

What fucked us up last season were injuries, suspensions and Bent being a wanker when he wanted away ........... none of that will be the case this time.

Difference being they came through the ranks and knew what was expected of them, the French being bought in do not.

Wonderfully ironic considering the thread title. U jelly? Fact is, we won the natural predecessor to the UEFA Cup which in turn is the predecessor of the Europa League. I'm sure clubs such as.. oh Barcelona, you might've heard of them, class it as a major honour so I see no reason why we shouldn't.

Among the many achievements in Europe include being considered 'King of the Cup Winners' that holds the team four times. In addition, fans gather three titles relating to the Fairs Cup (later UEFA Cup and now Europa League) in 1958, 1960 and 1966.
