Mr Redknapp

Striker
I was only 9 when it happened but I remember seeing the press going mad about it. I was watching a cricket DVD last night and it reached 1994 and Mike Atherton was seen rubbing dirt into the side of a cricket ball and rubbed it against his trousers.

I never really looked at Athers body language properly until then and he is not half acting shifty when he does it like . The match referee said that he accepted his explanation given (he was drying the ball). I also noted he dryed a specific side of the ball rather than, for example across the seam.

what do the wise Cricket forum users think? ;)

Love Athers though :)

f***ing cheat:evil:

If it had been someone from the sub-continent he would have been labled a cheat forever.

Athers just seems to laugh it off now on the few times I have heard him mention it since.

I don't like him.

If the Pakistani's had done it then they should have been banned from workd cricket.

But Athers is a good sort, so no problem really.

Excellent point.

Wasim and Waqar were labelled cheats for using reverse swing

From what I've heard he's a right moody bassa off camera.

No, late March two tests by the looks of it. Sri Lanka play their final ODI v Australia at the start of March and the IPL begins early April.

Never been mate, what's it like? You checked to see if there's another side touring in Feb?

I think Pakistan series is going to be held in Dubai.

Its superb mate. Loved all aspects. the culture in the more northern parts and the beaches down the south are out of this world. If there is a test in Galle then im guessing most will stay in Unawatuna (just next door to Galle). the place is stunning, and top notch to have a beer or eight in the beach bars as the sun goes down. Food is beautiful, people are unbelievably friendly and the tuk-tuk drives are mental.

Dont normally go back to the same country twice for a holiday but we loved it and there's much more i want to see.

Will have a quick peep now to see if anyone else is out there. Not holding my breath though if England-Pakistan was being considered.

Cheers. BA forum regs reckon Columbo and Hambatota (new ground in the sticks) are most likely mind :-(

What you've said makes me even more keen on Galle though.

went to galle and had a nosey round the ground. didnt do colombo last time but have 2 nights planned this time. its described as 'a monster'

suppose depends how long you go for. maybe do a test and then off down south for a few days relaxation?

Don't want to use a load of time off for it that's the problem. If there are back to back tests you can do the last two days of the first test, have a couple of beach days and finish the trip with the second test and only use 7 or 8 days holiday.

Not sure if I fancy a week in Colombo!

just checked and see hambantota is on the south coast so thats alright. its not too far from tangalla, which is a good beach and has a smaller set of caves like the famous dambulla ones (so worth a look). canny shank from galle/unawatuna but closer than it is to colombo (although thats on a good road).

edit: thats a good plan marra. nah ya definitely dont want a week in colombo!
