Isn't Louise Taylor usually pretty reliable?

Let's hope so if she thinks we still have a chance of getting welbeck back...

"Bruce, meanwhile, hopes to finalise the signing of Nedum Onuoha from Manchester City – but not at City's £8m asking price – and is also optimistic about the £5m acquisition of the Birmingham midfielder Craig Gardner."

This means Brown and/or O'Shea snubbed Sunderland?

Brown i think. She suggests O'Shea is still an option

The interesting one is Gardner for me. If Gibson is likely to sign, then surely the pursuit of Gardner suggests a leaning towards 4-3-3 next season. NZogbia and Sessegnon would corroborate that also - as would the apparent cooling of our interest in 'big name' strikers.

Very possibly.

Gibson Cattermole Gardner

or

Larsson Colback Riveros

To be honest just about every single one of our midfielders would suit a 433 (451) over a 442.

That's how i see it.

Gyan, Sess & N'Zogbia as a front 3

Catts, Gibson & Gardner in midfield
