Don't think Tredwell's all that bad personally but Keedy has been probably the most underrated spinner in county cricket for a good few years now, think he's 37 this year though so his time would appear to have definitley gone.

Keedy is as good as there is. In an era where other facets of your game werent so important i'm sure he would have played for England.

Why? We have two tours to the subcontinent coming up. You can't always play for the future, at some point you have to live in the here and now. Draft him in for those tours like Udal a few years ago.

Most on here thought picking Udal was a terrible decision

If the cupboard was completely bare I'd not be against giving him a chance, but it isn't, there's Rashid, Briggs, Tredwell and even Panesar who are as equally deserving and certainly more sensible picks. If we are aiming to be the number 1 team in the world, picking Keedy for 1 winter ahead of someone like Rashid would make no sense as surely Strauss and Flower will want to build a legacy like Australia did in the late 90's and 2000's.

If you always live in the future there is never a present.

Thats fair enough but purely as a bowler hes better than most of them. I would only trust keedy and panesar to bowl 18-25 overs of good accurate and threatening spin in a day at quality batsmen.

However there is wider considerations than picking a 37 year old I agree.

I personally think Blackwell could do a job as a 2nd spinner for England..... As much as I don't want him to leave us of course but they could play 3 seamers plus Swann and Blackie and Blackie could be a very capable number 8...... Just me?!

I think Blackwell's excess weight would prevent the selectors from picking him for England which is a shame as he is a very decent spinner. I would also say he could bat at 7 never mind 8.

He may well be, although if I'm honest I'm not sure he's a more threatening bowler than Tredwell or Rashid. He's certainly a good county bowler who knows his skill and I reckon could bowl economically at decent batsman, which could prove good foil for Swann, but if that is what the selectors are looking for I'm sure they would go back for Panesar.

My concern with Rashid and to a lesser extent Tredwell, is that while they take wickets, I'm not sure they are economical enough to play as a 2nd spinner.
