Is dying..... Following on from hearing a debate about it today on TMS about One Day cricket now being more popular than Test cricket in certain parts of the world. Places like the subcontinentt I think definitely see it that way. Boycs reckons in 50 years time Test Cricket will be gone.

I for one would much rather watch Test Matches (and County Championship) cricket every day of the week, month and year ahead of ODI's or T20.......

Malinga is a prime example of someone who if there wasnt 20/20 about these days would be playing for Sri Lanka in this test series

His record might not be great in this format but he certainly has the raw attributes or did to become a decent test bowler

Sad (but I have been making this point for a while now)

i hope to god not. i agree about what id sooner watch. i dont mind odi/pro40 but id probably sooner wash my hair that watch t20

I certainly prefer test/4 day cricket, but also enjoy T20 almost as a direct summer replacement for football because it's quick and there's always something happening.

I can't honestly see test cricket becoming defunct, but there's going to have to be a change in years to come to keep the crowds coming in. If anything it will be ODIs that are more under threat from T20.

test cricket is the be all and end all for me, and for cricket lovers.

T20 is alright to kill a few hours but is clearly geared for americans or those who just want to watch a game of rounders.

one dayers should be shelved as the other two formats cover everything.

I think that when Tendulkar packs in, with a pretty much unbeatable number of runs to his name, Indian supporters will lose interest in the test game. That would leave England, Australia and SA as the only teams who see Tests as the main format.
The ashes will continue imo and with smaller series against other teams, I'd be quite happy.

serious question, cos i dont know the ins and outs. how much is cricket depending upon people comign through the gates? doesnt the likes of sky invest the majority of the cash?

also, if they are that concerned they should lower the prices. you would have been looking at around 400 sheets to watch 5 days at lords.

This. Aggers said yesterday on TMS that entry for the final session was £12. Now call me tight but that doesn't sound like value to me?! I remember going to Old Trafford on Day 4 v Pakistan in about 2000 (?) and it was a tenner for my old man and 5 quid for me for a full day's play.....

Which brings me to another note: I hate Lords Tests and think OT and Headingley should get a Test every year!

I don't think gave receipts matter much to the ecb at they get the sky money, but they do to the counties. Yorkshire lost a million (I think it was) quid last year because of the Pakistan v Australia match selling very badly.

I have my concerns over it and I do love test cricket but it was promising to see the first 2 days of this test still packed to the rafters with the traditional test match atmosphere. It does seem to be dying in places like India due to the IPL, but English, West Indian, South African and Australian tests are still well attended like they have always been.

They're even on about introducing day/night Tests. Something I'd like to see but with the way umpires go on, such as walking off last night for 12 minutes for "bad light", I can't see it happening.

Sky have reported that the umps got their @rses kicked for that from the match referee and have been told if the floodlights are on and there's people in the ground then you play!
