had his very good moments i agree, and was superb in the field.

however, england dont miss him as a batsman imo

if you are wanting a batsmen solely for his ability to dig in then we have a better player in trott.

he did, but im guessing a few big uns masked the in and out in seconds....

stats dont always tell a true story either. didnt the likes of vaughan average around the same? colly could only dream of being as good as MV.

my point still stands, we dont miss him as a batsman.

When you play nearly 70 tests your average is a pretty accurate representation of your ability. You also dont get 20 test 50s and 10 hundreds if you're not a very good batsman.

fair enough. i liked him, even more so cos he was a lcoal lad. however, i always saw him as one of the weaker links in the batting line ups he was in. and just to get back to my original point, we dont miss him with the bat.

do you think we are missing his batting at present?
