Playing for Bishop 2nds today, we got 277/8 d off 49 overs, but Wolviston were 214/5 off 51 overs (got one of ours for deceleration). They never really played attacking cricket untill the last 10 to 15 overs, so they got the 75% of our runs to get some draw points. Why is this rule in place, i dont know of anyother leagues that do this. Should be 50 overs each, most runs wins.....like a normal one day game!

Even though the overs are limited its still classed as timed cricket and you didnt bowl them out. Not sure of the league rules but in the old DSL, the first innings started at 2pm was a maximum of 55 overs. The team batting second then batted up to 7pm and then entered "the last 20".
It was in the interest of the team bowling first to have a good over rate so the first innings finished asap allowing the team batting second to have as many overs as possible to chase down the target.

so in anwsering your question.....you didnt bowl them out, hence the draw

I would love to play in a league where you got draws, it would suit my batting as I am one of the slowest batters around. My captain could just put me in a few overs from the end and say 'Give us a draw, just stay in'.

45 overs is enough cricket to sort out a result on a Saturday
