They were reasonable standards given the quality of the side at the time. Melville did improve, as did Chamberlain after both had shaky starts. Phil Gray however, was rubbish.

Phil Grey was class, I remember thinking he was shit and couldn't pass for shit, when he first arrived. But then I realised he was on a different level to the other plodders he was playing with
