My memory may be playing up on me but I saw the original Evil Dead when it was a banned "video nasty" in the 80's and it scared the shit out of me.

I watched it years later when it was un-banned and it seemed more of a comedy horror.

Am I going senile or was the original totally different?

The first one was intended as a proper horror. Evil Dead 2 was a comedy, as were Army Of Darkness, and Ash Vs The Evil Dead TV show, but iirc not the modern remake of the original. I think.

The original Omen film is one of the few horror films hat still scares me when it come on

Bllie Whitelaw as the demonic nanny is chilling stuff
