Shack, Stan Anderson and Ted Purdon all regulars in DSL.Something that doesn't seem to happen these days. I remember Steve Ogrizovic as a Minor Counties standard wicketkeeper (played club cricket for Coventry and North Warks in the Birmingham League,),and Gary Shaw also playing Birmingham League for Aston Unity.
I used to love seeing LJ hanging about on the left side halfway and FW would take himself wide-right high up so the other team had to leave one or two to keep an eye on them. Unfortunately (at the time) we didn't have the players to capitalise on the space they'd created just by being who they were.RIP, quality player with on pitch persona. He & Frankie W brought football class to the club, I loved being able to see them. You could tell from how teams set up against them just how feared they were despite their age.

Me too. Same age.RIP
71 seems no age at all . Gives 68 year old me the willies, for sure
Durbs knew what he was bringing in and the benefits he & FW would have. Pity the board couldn't see it.RIP Leighton. He was a class act as a footballer and enjoyable to watch for SAFC. I remember he linked up well with Frankie Worthington and had a positive impact as a mentor to a young Paul Atkinson when he came into our team.
When he got the ball & set off on a run to lash it at the goal.Loved watching him. He used to stand on the line on the wing at the opposite side to where the play was happening and ghost into the box.
You and me both mate!RIP

Remember that game, beat them 3-0. I think finished off one great move with a diving header.I remember watching him at Roker Park circa 83 and he absolutely terrorised the Watford (I think) defence. Well for an hour as he could never last any longer . RIP.
Probably his best game for us. 3-0 home win and he absolutely destroyed Pat Rice the ex Arsenal right back.I remember watching him at Roker Park circa 83 and he absolutely terrorised the Watford (I think) defence. Well for an hour as he could never last any longer . RIP.
