I remember him playing his first test for England and getting 4 or so wickets in one of the innings. A bit of a one test wonder as I remember it?

Was at Lords once when he took a catch for England. He was working on the groundstaff/MCC young cricketers.

I don't either. I know Darren - he played his club cricket at my club a couple of years before. He was picking up wickets for Notts and was called up to the England squad training at Loughborough 3 weeks before the Test. They knew he was English born. He had several sessions with the squad - he was not unknown to them in the way the cricketing media said. He was phoned several times by Geoff Miller to see how he was feeling. Next thing he knew - the call came to go Headingley to play for his country. What would you have done in a similar situation? You don't turn your country down do you?
If a certain player had not been out at a testimonial function the night before then the situation would not have happened.
