No backup for Defoe or Pickford

Doesn't matter how you try and big up watmore, borini or whoever we never got someone to help up front with Defoe or at the back with Pickford.
 


Vito was sounding more optimistic today but he is still out for a while after his op.
We do need a keeper.
As for a reserve striker, we are limited to Asoro and Dunc, who is not really a striker.
Bit of a cock-up, that?
 
It's known we've needed a backup striker all summer, and apart from Naismith today, we've not even been linked with anyone.
And it's been well known for over a week now that Vito was injured, and we needed cover for GK, yet have waited till the last minute to make some lame attempt to loan someone.

The 2 positions we NEEDED cover for, and we don't get anyone.

Sunderland really are a ducking joke!!
 
We really do deserve to go down this time....what the fuck is going on? Shambles comes nowhere close. Can't blame anyone for losing their patience with our Club. It's like Short and Co are taking the piss.

Why? We could easily have spent £6m on a player like Altidore, £8m on a player like Lens, £14m on a player like Fletcher etc and people would be tugging themselves off at how 'good' our business has been. Look at how Newcastle 'won' both transfer windows last season, that worked well. Yeah we look a bit short, especially due to injuries but let's just see how things pan out first.

Could yet be a blessing in disguise that young players like Asoro, Gooch and Pickford will get a chance, Pure Football has been begging to give youth a chance for long enough.
 
If what Vito tweeted is true, and he will be back sooner than expected, perhaps buying/loaning a keeper would have been a bad call, when we can get a free agent as backup to wor Jordan.

I have faith in the lad. Put him as No.1, get some steady hand to come in to back him up, and then before you know it Vito will be back.

I'm more concerned about the striker issue tbh, but if Defoe doesn't get injured we are laughing. First priority in January mind.

Yes just a bit, considering Watmore is far from the finished article and Asoro is 17.

So we should be happy we've signed nobody because we once signed some poor players?

That's the worst attempt to justify the lack of signings from what I've seen so far.
 
Lack of funds, injuries and unexpected demands from players have pushed us into attempting to balance the proactive with the reactive inside a severely restricted time frame. We've done well IMO.

Januzaj can also play up front and Borini hasn't died, he will be back.

Whoever we brought in wouldn't be a patch on Defoe, we need him to stay fit and keep banging the goals in.
