McCarthy and Milner..

There seems to be some evidence that we may have enquired about these two. Just for the sake of argument how do you think our team would look with these two in.

Finance first...roughly £23m say for the two. We could have taken the offer for Ji (say £4m)....and made more strenuous attempts to offload any two of Gardner, Vaughan and Larsson (even if it was only £3m for the two). We need not have signed Cabral, kept N'Diaye and Cattermole could have been loaned out to free up the wages.

So, roughly a £16m net spend for the window.

............................................................Westwood.......................................................

Celutska...............................O'Shea..............Brown/Diakite..................Colback

.Johnson............................Milner...............McCarthy...........................Giacch

....................................Fletcher.............................Altidore

Away from home and at home to the top teams......add Ki to the middle and go 451.

Subs (from)...Mannone, Brown or Diakite, Cuellar, Dossena, Roberge, Larsson or Gardner, N'Diaye, Ki, Karlsson, Mavrias, Ba, Borini, Fletcher or Altidore in some games and Wickham.

That's a genuine top half of the table team imo with loads of options from the bench......all for less than most teams have spent this summer.

Edit....and seeing as 9 of those favour English as their native tongue it should put paid to the communication problems.

Probably would had only gotten one of the 2...Preferred Milner since he's stronger and more versatile...would had fitted perfectly alongside Ki.

Maybe Milner could still be an option for the winter transfer window, if he's not getting proper time at Man U...Even if it's on loan, specially if Swansea recalls Ki back.

It will be too late come January imo.....no-one will want to jump aboard a sinking ship.[DOUBLEPOST=1379247860][/DOUBLEPOST]
I doubt we'd have paid Milner's wages.

This is what it's all about. Never mind who earns what as long as the total is acceptable.

Is there evidence we enquired about Milner, like?

aye gets no playing time at all for Man U, shame as hes a good player for them

There's no evidence we enquired about milner .
Even if we had tried to get both what were supposed to do , uproot the SOL and relocate it in cheshire ?
This post is tosh.

A tenuous link......he hasn't moved and he's hardly getting on the pitch and when he does it's on the wing.

However you could substitute any player of similar quality......unfortunately we didn't seem to be shopping at that level.

So none, then. And none to suggest it was a player of comparable quality either. And none to suggest whoever the English midfielder was we wanted him as well as McCarthy. Just pure conjecture.

You think a player like McCarthy who's two clubs were Hamilton and Wigan was beyond our scope?

Or Milner come to that......a reserve played out of position for his club.....a similar level of signing to Johnson imo.

WTF has Cheshire got to do with it....Milners from Yorkshire and McCarthy from f***ing Glasgow.[DOUBLEPOST=1379248429][/DOUBLEPOST]

That's mainly what we deal with on here though.....the reality is f***ing shit.

McCarthy isn't even close to being worth an eight figure sum. It would have been terrible business to spend that sort of money on him; Ki is a better player than him anyway.

What makes you think anyone would want to take Cattermole on loan and pay his £40k wages? A Championship team couldn't afford it and a Prem team wouldn't risk it. It was in a lot of the media that we were willing to let Vaughan go for as little as £1m yet no-one wanted him. I can't imagine Larsson or Gardner being that easy to move on either.

Milner is supposedly on around £80k a week at Man City. Do you think he would take a pay cut? Assuming McCarthy would want around £35k as well, that's an extra £6m on the wage bill. Do you think Ji and Cabral are on a combined total of even half of that?

That business would have been impossible this summer.

They both played for clubs in the north west , mCcarthy has signed for a cub over there and milner hasn't moved , i 'm making the point , which hopefully you will get duh, that despite the kind of money they are both now getting , which no doubt is over our budget , we would have to up that considerably to try and persuade then to relocate ?
Milner is way out of our price range ( wages) and ki looks as though he has more potential than mCcarthy .

Mate, there's no place for sense on one of LA's head in the cloud threads.

Another fantastic, fact provoked thread for Lord Alfred. This place is a shambles.

A load of bollix (as usual) from you.....[DOUBLEPOST=1379249119][/DOUBLEPOST]

The team is a shambles because we haven't spent a penny despite bringing 14 players in......an average price of less than £2m each. In case you haven't noticed we are already propping the table up with little prospect that situation will change any time soon....... 14 f***ing players signed and we still can't put a decent centre-midfield on the pitch.[DOUBLEPOST=1379249278][/DOUBLEPOST]

We did have an enquiry from a Championship team to take Cattermole on loan (Forest i'd heard) and i did say that Cabral, Ji, two of Larsson, Vaughan and Gardner and Cattermole could leave to free up the wages.

So, making up players that we were interested in is your way of dealing with the situation?

I heard we made tentative enquiries for Ozil, Bale and Falcao.

Di Canio said we had enquired after McCarthy PLUS another English CM at a price of £11m.....who do you think that could be then.
