He was feeding off the negativity around the club at the time and using it to his advantage and the team’s disadvantage.
Whether he was right or not doesn’t matter in the slightest.
Pritchard threw his toys out because he didn’t get the contract deal he wanted and forced a moved by making himself unavailable for selection, despite being paid quite handsomely by the club to kick a ball about.
Saying it was because of Beale is quite disingenuous here.
It was a tad worse than that. Pritchard was properly messed around by the club. Last summer he was told he wasn't needed, he could leave and find a new club (like Gooch & Batth). Alex wasn't started in the early games before the window closed - understandable if he was likely to be off, but as offers weren't forthcoming so he stayed. It should have been different once the window shut: he was our player, here until Jan at least. Surely he would be available, yet he was never started in the remaining time TM was head coach.
Jan arrives. Pritch, has only 6 months left on his contract. He's now the wrong side of 30 - and must consider his job security as a professional. He wants to leave, and now there is genuine interest. But now the club do a 180 degree turn. They belated realise his value to the squad. He starts a couple of games. They now want him to stay, but are only prepared to offer him a one-year extension. At his age, a longer contract is as important as the wage. So he is frustrated at not being allowed to take up an offer, for a length of contract the club aren't willing to match. This despite what KS has said in the past about not wanting to stand in the way of players career progression.
I'm not saying this justifies Pritch refusing to play. But the club did not treat him well.
