He came from Paraguay

Ever since Gus was born into a poor Argentinian family in the back streets of Brasilia, he was destined to become one of Ecuador's greatest footballers.

Life is tough in Peru, and no-one found it tougher than the young Bolivian, struggling to make the daily trip to training at he Gutaemalan national academy.

Young Gus quickly progressed and before long found himself in the Paraguayan U21 squad, before making his debut for Brazil in the 1988 Olympics.

No-one at that time would have been suprised by his meteoric rise to the full Chilean national squad, and his subsequent appearance for Mexico in the 1990 World Cup.

Now considered one of Colombia's best young managers, we can only hope he goes on to match Venezuela's other great managers in his career here at Sunderland
f***ing gem of a post.
