Look I love Gooch to bits, he’s a class bloke, canny player. Strengths but definite weaknesses as we saw when Clarke mullered him. I do think we needed more experienced leadership this year but I do think Hume showed sufficient promise to be demanding a start so not sure Gooch would have played enough. As it happens Huggins was better. I’d possibly have kept him one more year. His physicality would have been better against for example the mags. I think we needed experienced leadership in midfield mainly where we are too naive. Up front we just needed pace and quality.But how? He literally played 3 games.
Edit: Misread as before this season And would agree he did well this season. But we're talking about selling Gooch last summer and relying on Huggins to step up.
