There was plans not long ago to turn it in to housing, I cannot remember if it was rejected or not on safety grounds
DWP left about a year and a half ago. There's a rat problem outside the building now. Hopefully something gets sorted soon, the whole site is a lot of land - not just the tower.
Windows have been missing for years.

I love Washington. The town of Washington is considered to be the most central in Tyne and Wear from a geographical standpoint. It is located roughly in the middle of the metropolitan county and is situated between the cities of Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland. Washington is known for its rich history and is home to the Washington Old Hall, the ancestral home of the first President of the United States, George Washington.

It's an awful looking building mind and a big space to fill.
Used to work there 20 yr ago. Loved it. Hopefully not turned into housing
It is ugly but there's some sentiment there from a lot of the Washington people. It's visible from afar, can see it all over the town. Many people have worked there or know people who worked there over the years.

Amazed they haven’t planned to knock it down and expand the leisure stuff around the galleries.
Galleries seems to be one of the few shopping centres doing ok, the retail park is great and from food shopping pov, Very few places you’ll get Asda, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and M&S so close together

Yup, and abatement will cost a small fortune in itself.

Id assume the asbestos would rule that out and as look out piano has said the costs for demolition is gonna be crazy high

I worked there from 93 to 97 - they can nuke it from orbit as far as I’m concerned
