Canny clever you like.

Okay well that answers that, although that lad off x-factor form a few yearsback (window cleaner) is in the papers looking all solid and ripped and that and he says he knocked the carbs on the head. I presume (and hope) he is only moments away from dying.

He may well have undergone a carbohydrate restricted diet for a while in order to achieve that look. If he's 'big' there will also have been a period where he'll have gained muscle weight and fat at the same time before cutting (during which he'll have also lost some muscle mass).

I feel like people keep going over this with you like mate : it's pretty much impossible to build muscle and lose fat at the same time. And how 'ripped' you are is a function of how low your body fat % is.

Furthermore, take anything anyone says in the media about their diet and exercise regime with a pinch of salt.

You feel like it cos thats exactly what is happening

Edit: No, im cutting out the salt altogether.

If having a six pack and that is what you're after you can go on a calorie restricted diet and up your protein intake a bit to try and mitigate muscle tissue degradation.

However if you're already quite light (iirc you are?) then you could probably stand to put a few lbs on before doing it!

My protein shakes make me fart my heed off

Aye think I'm going to go for something more towards that cos I simply couldn't pouch enough anyway!

My Protein impact whey is probably best value.

Don't worry, you're probably not going to get big by accident as it takes years of dedication and it's going to be challenging to even 'put a bit of muscle on'.

Protein powder is just a food supplement, not magic voodoo steroid drugs.

Thats the one I got and its been a couple of weeks now and every time I have one I feel bloated with half of supping it. Never have any issues at any other time only after a shake. Does the sweetener (Sucrose) cause bloating? Thinking I might try the unflavoured variety to see if that makes a difference.

No mate. Sucrose is just regular table sugar - it's a combination of glucose and fructose bonded together like so:

That won't be causing bloating.

Thanks. And damn it. Well something in the fucker is. Been reading up on it and it seems loads of people have this problem, but it seems no one can give a consistent answer to the reason.

Generally a high amount of protein all at once causes you to feel very full. That's probably all it is.

There can also be issues with not getting enough fibre so try throwing some blended flax seed in.

Was just about to say I don't often eat a lot of meat (say a steak for example) but whenever I do I feel the same way actually. Perhaps I could try the fibre suggestion and not neck my shake and instead space it out a bit. You reckon it makes a difference if its made with water rather than milk? Thanks marra, im a right pest

It certainly did for me when I was unfit as dairy & wheat used to tie my innards in knots & give me horrific farts. Now I'm pretty fit & doing an hour + of intense exercise most days I can have loads with no ill effects.

I will try that, ta. (Dont think the fitness thing is a factor as Ive been running and stuff for years - just not lifting weights - and ive never had any probs with dairy etc). Thinking it might also just be because I have always had a low protein diet (now im actually aware of what things do and dont have much protein so now im eating more and necking shakes my body might just be thinking 'wtf?')

If you're lactose intolerant then milk will definitely make you feel bloated.

I think you can definitely get a simple test from your GP or even Boots for lactose intolerance.

Will do, but i dont think thats the crack. Like I said, ive been reading dozens of sites and loads of lads are complaining of the same and I doubt they are all lactose intolerant? Its one of the top searches on google regarding whey protein.

Im thinking its more the fact Im just not used to eat much protein/meat.

I got constipated when I first started using why protein powder but I'm OK now as I also ensure fibre and water intake is enough. Your body may take a while to adapt.

Do you have it with a meal? If you're having a couple of chicken breasts then hoying another 30 odd grams of protein in + milk then you will feel a bit sluggish and that's just something you need to accept.

I won't have them with meals myself for this very reason.

Had one at 19.00 last night on its own and by 20.00 i felt uncomfortably full/bloated. Will just go with it for now, ta.

Is the other one that Titus corrected me on causing it?

Almost certainly not. As I say, protein causes feelings of being full when consumed in large amounts. Even when you're used to it. It's not easy for anyone to eat huge amounts.

Cool. Well it feels uncomfortable so im gonna just have a couple on the go and have little drinks over the course of each day rather than just necking them and see how that works.
