We all naturally produce a growth hormone called IGF-1 and while it’s great at keeping the body on the go, in later life it can also speed up the ageing process and the onset of age-related diseases. When we fast, IGF-1 production is inhibited, and our bodies

That article you've linked does say that more data are needed to confirm that fasting diets do have the additional health benefits over just weight-loss. It still annoys me that the BBC never link to the actual research in their science articles too.

Any good Recipies like? Started this today and ganna aim for 2 100g snacks then a 400 cal meal.

Post #12 mate:

Well, today I have ate-
200 cal of bran with milk
an apple (70 cal)
and I will be eating 2 hard boiled eggs (140 cal) and a bread roll (110 cal)
This morning was tough, fuckin starving. This afternoon was unreal, I have had boundless energy akin to taking speed. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's breakfast, it will be epic

Just had 2 slices of dark rye Ryvita (68kcal), cottage cheese (130kcal) and nando's sauce (6kcal for 10ml).

am ganna have a chicken salad the neet in mustard and balsamic dressing

How many calories in that mate?

I got some chicken breasts at the weekend, cooked them and took them to work. Hoyed one straight onto a Tesco salad bowl and it was filling. I need to start counting how many cals are in meals as I'd like to try 5:2 for a few months.

380 mate (200g uncooked of chicken breast)

I'm having another bash at this after hearing of people fasting from tea time to tea time.

Did it on Monday, had my tea at 6pm, then ate nothing til dinner at work on Monday where I had a banana, an apple, a muller lite yoghurt and a special K cereal bar which amounted to 410 calories. During the day I had 3/4 cups of black coffee and about 7/8 cups of water until I had my tea at 6pm that night. I'm doing the same again today not eaten since tea last night.

Now does this sound like I'm doing it correctly? Obviously on my 'normal days' I'm going to eat healthier than previously as well, cutting out shite and trying not to exceed 1500 calories.

That is likely a huge average calorie deficit. Going to want plenty of protein on the 'normal days' too

How did you feel? Dizzy? Alert?

Personally I need to have breakfast or I'd be a zombie all day. I've been cutting out shite while I've been at work but not fasted/reduced calories massively (yet?).

Something like this at the moment for 4 consecutive days:

Breakfast: porridge with semi-skimmed milk.
Mid-morning: x2 hard boiled eggs, apple.
Dinner: Salad + tin of tuna OR small portion of leftover home-made soup OR vegetables etc.
Mid-afternoon: fruit, usually a banana.
Tea/Evening: Whatever has been cooked for me.

I'm hoping that cutting out crisps, chocolate, junk while at work will have an effect. I anticipate that I'd need to reduce the above by about 25% for it to constitute a 5:2 'fast day' but I'm not at the point of totting up calories.

I'm not sure what a calorie deficit is, I've heard it before but never really understood it properly

Missing breakfast has never had that effect on me, I could add the porridge in exchange for some of my dinner. As for tea it's usually whatever's on the table, usually okay stuff though.

Would any of you recommend drinking black coffee and cups of water all of the time instead of just the fast days? I usually have a tea or coffee with sugar. Every little helps I suppose?

Reet, seeing as I'm back to work and will be hammering the SMB for the next 14 days (as opposed to being off for a fortnight and having a life) I'll post my findings after 4 weeks of the 5:2.
Fasting days are a doddle now, I just have the same foods on each one (see post 12) but maybe change the evening meal to a 300 cal total of veg or salad and either fish or some bland meat. Drinking loads of water and green tea, fizzy water is good anarl.
I have lost 12 lbs, I'm 85kg now from nearly 90kg. I will continue this until Xmas, then drop onto one day a week for a fortnight (living the life, I know) then back onto 5:2 for the foreseeable
