Boss expecting you to stay back every night to clear work?

It's f***ing great innit? Even better if you're a single parent or you have custody days. Sorry boss I can't stay back tues, weds, thurs or alternate fris, and can never work sat or sun again. Oh, and I'll wander in whenever I fancy and blame the 'school run', if that's ok with you?

I can't understand why people do this. Maybe the odd half hour here and there, but 2 hours a night? I'd be walking out at 6. What they gonna do , sack you?

I don't get paid for it so balls to that. In fact, when i used to go in on the odd weekend it actually cost me £8 in fuel, so I was going in and losing money.

Depends if I was getting paid for it and if it was convenient for me to do it. If the answer was yes and yes, then my answer would be yes. Otherwise...no.

I have no idea why you would choose to work for a company that made you work after your contracted finish time. I wouldnt do it.

TBF I've never been in the position that people are talking about. I dont know what sort of job it is or whether it relies on skilled or unskilled labour. Clearly if your livelihood depends on it and you arent confident about getting something, somewhere else then you may well have to run with this.

IMHO if people arent satisfied with their jobs though they should start looking around immediately. Dont be frightened to change until you get the job you want. Clearly this can take a while but you feel better looking for something else when you arent happy at work. Makes you feel as though change might be just around the corner.

Its surprising though how quickly things can change at work. One day youre fucked off the next the boss is calling you in and telling you that someone has left and youre getting promoted. Play the game, do what you are supposed to do and dont draw attention to yourself.

It's a reactionary job and have to be prepared to stay late. It's annoying but comes with the job and I know this.
 
Get a public sector job! leave bang on the dot or before if you can nip off everyday or stay an extra 10 mins get paid 4 hours overtime. It's the bollox so it is
 
When I told my staff they had to stop back I always told them it was because they didn't plan the workload as it should have been finished on time.
Load of bollocks really
