Been looking at bill starr's 5x5 but it's condensing it into 2 days. Plus finding a gym that you can drop the bar from a clean - nee way I'm lowering a heavy clean back down

I'm back in Sunderland for a few weeks and trying to find a suitable gym myself for heavy deadlifts

Try that Exercise for less mate. From the video on the site it looks like it's got everything in. I just joined pure last week and they've got rubber flooring so you can drop weights easy enough.

Will do mate. Do they have standard sized plates? I know a few of these commercial gyms the rubber plates are smaller so you're doing a deficit dead.

Training at Cleveland road tomorrow like for squats and speed deadlifts which won't be too much of an issue as I'll just control the negatives

what's the official width like?

Plates are actually thicker than the ones used at Cleveland rd mate. There's plenty 25/20/10kg plates kicking about.

What's BoR?

Edit: bent over row. Forget it.

Aye. Rows.

I'm not even going to think about trying a 1RM or even a triple for 6 months. I'm just going to keep trundling on and then see where I'm at half a year down the line. I'm also doing away with belt and chalk until I go for a 1rm again.

Given my starting point here was already being able to DL more than twice my weight for a triple I reckon I'll be pleased with the numbers I see by then and will be confident of going to a meet and not making an arse of myself. Although at my height, if I progress in body weight as I should I'm probably going to be competing in quite a high weight class :(

I've just got to stop myself from being sneaky and testing my 1rm in say a month's time. Might ask if the gym can put something on the computer system which tells one of the coaches to give me a slap if they catch me doing it

First time doing conventional deadlifts in a few months. Here is a beltless 220kg x 3:

I'm not really happy. This was more of a rest-pause type set. If I didn't have to fight the bar rolling around due to the uneven floor around the power rack or control the eccentrics so much, I probably could have gotten more reps or a slightly higher weight, but doing that for all sets leading up this set too, it took a bit out of me.

6 plate sumo deadlift coming VERY soon. 6 plate conventional by the end of the year, as I'll not be pulling very often with it.

Slight rest week this week then back at it heavy from next Tuesday.
Hoping to finally blast through some lingering plateaus.
One thing on deadlifts, I'm happier with my form now than ever before but still feel a bit of discomfort in lower back after a set (not pain but worried a bit about pushing it) - the thing is, it feels fine on the way up but I struggle on the way back down. Am i better off just slamming the weights down rather than to control it?

Yes, if your gym is fine with that. Either that or reduce the load and control the eccentrics.

what no lifter wants to hear ever!! but i know you're right...damn it

I'd rather just drop it as the deadlift is an all concentric lift in competition, but the alternative is to just lower it when training at gyms that don't allow you to drop it. Shouldn't have to lower the weight too much though
