Who are the "dirtiest" players that you've, personally, seen play?

Eric Mcmordie - Middlesbrough in the 70s - dirty and evil with it.

Souness - it makes me laugh when he talks about teams getting at the referee - he practically invented it - dirty, dirty player.

I'm not talking about "hard men" but those that were just "dirty"!

For me, I can name two - Bobby Collins and Johnny Giles who both played for Revie's Leeds team.

Giles used to be a right winger but replaced Collins in the centre after he had his leg broken!

In the '60s there weren't cameras everywhere and these two scumbags would wait until the ball was yards away, with the ref watching it before kidney punching and/or raking their studs down the back of an opponent's calves.

They are the only two that I can think of that (if I'd been good enough to play against) I would have gone out with the intention of ending their playing careers.

Are there any that you think of in the same way?

Substitute dirty for hard and you get Jimmy Scoular, Joe Bolton, Billy Elliot, Dave McKay, Chopper Harris etc.

Trevor Hockey

Someone else mentions Bobby Collins. A few years ago I watched a bit of a re-run of the Liverpool Leeds FA cup final from the early 60's on Liverpool TV (it was free). The little get went right over the ball and stamped on a Liverpool players shins, poor bloke could barely stand up never mind run for about 5 mins.

Lots of proper snides listed already but two missed off the list: John Fashanu and Graham Roberts.

I didn't see him play but I recall ex-players saying Hugo Sanchez was a right cu*t to play against.

Horrible shit. His 1st touch was bad so he could fly into a tackle and foul the opponent.

He was a little fucker anarl...

Hated Speedie too, always letting his horrible mouth go then moaning and whaling when he got flattened, don't care he was not a bad player either when he focused on that

Duncan Ferguson
Pat Van den Hauwe
Not picking on Everton just remember them both as dirty bastards.

Remember a televised game against Chelsea, Van Den Hauwe absolutely obliterated Speedie with an off the ball elbow. The cameras caught it but not the ref so no booking or suspension. When Speedie was being treated Sotuhall and Van Den Hauwe were properly pissing themselves that he got away with it.

Tried to find it on youtube a few times but to no avail.

Short tempered on the field and off it:

In an interview withthe set pieces, the former Wales international said: 'I used to wear an ankle strap and at night if I went out, I carried it. There was just one incident, some guy who owed me money.

'He kept ducking me and ducking me and after I'd had a few drinks and god knows what, I bumped into him outside a pub. I said "Where's me money?" and because he was a black belt in karate I thought "I'm not gonna f*** around with this".

'He said to me "Well, what you gonna do about it?" and you know when I lose my temper, I lose my temper.

'So I just turned around, put me leg up on the wall, pulled me gun out and pointed it at his head. Then I looked up to him and said, "What are you gonna f****** do now then?'
