The problem with PR is not being able to represent an area though, isn't it? If UKIP say get 13% of the vote (about 4,000,000 votes, or an average of 6,150 votes per constituency) how do they give them 85 seats in the House of Commons?

Wouldn't we have to either massively increase the size of the commons or do away with constituencies altogether?

You could do something along the lines of what the Scottish parliament does.
Have FPTP constituency MP's then additional regional MP's elected by PR

I get that but with daft idiots parachuted into safe seats, what is there to lose?

I see. I think it's great that we all have a member of parliament for our local area and would not want to lose that. PR seems much fairer though.
You can guarantee you'll never get a one party government then

Mind, looks that way anyway lol

Could try it first with an elected 100-seat upper chamber, make up determined by share of the vote

Despite our differences I used to think you were ok. At least a few brain cells in there which is more than most on here.

But if you really want the two Eds running the country then you're clearly not as clever as you think you are.

That represents a few " elephants in the room" - can you have more than 1?
You can't have an increasing population with ever increasing standards of living - it's a pyramid scheme. Not to mention that the average UK standard of living is probably already unsustainably high.
Improved NHS means more front line staff which the UK doesn't train. So short term answer is to steal developing countries medical staff - which kind of fucks up the immigration bit! Not to mention a supposed socialist party stealing medical professionals from countries that need them a lot more than the UK.

Don't know who i'm voting for yet. Can't decide if hate the poor and sick more than the rich and privileged, or the lazy workshy indigenous scum more than the sponging johnny foreigners.

Might vote UKIP. They hate everybody.

Reported. Just cos ee disagree wiv you, don't mean ee iz black.

Definitely this. He has a bit of a misplaced superiority complex.

How many people ever have anything to do with their local mp. I would say 95% of people voting are voting for the party to lead the country. However, due to our voting system it means who are voting for an mp, when really you're not, your mp is a means to an end.

If that makes sense.

I get what you mean but there is a designated member of parliament to deal with issues in your area and that is their brief, there are only a certain number of cabinet, ministerial, and select committee appointments available meaning you're going to have backbenchers with time to devote to their constituency.

If a local area is not represented, what is to stop nobody taking action in that area? Likewise if an area is not represented whats to stop over representation of that area?
