Skipping - Bloody hell

Had a search and it was only old threads that I couldn't add to that existed so thought I'd start a new one... Started boxing training about 4 months ago and really enjoying it, never felt as fit in my life. I was utter shite at skipping until recently but have made a concerted effort to be able to do it and love it now, but bloody hell it nearly kills me. Great workout once you get past the part where you're just slapping yourself about the legs with a rope looking like a divvy.

Started doing a bit in the garden recently now the weather is getting better. Really hard workout. After my first session the next day I was aching like mad. Muscles in the bottom of my feet were aching ffs. Used to do boxing training years ago so I can skip quite well, took me a little while to get used to it again though.

It's my calves, never had a workout like it for them. Trying to do 3 10 minutes sets each day at the minute, really feeling a difference - it's replaced running because my hip is so sore after running these days that I just can't do that anymore.

I'd be amazed if it isn't at least as effective as running for calorie burning.

Been looking to do some skipping in the garden but I keep forgetting to buy some.

Does jumping release more endorphins or something? I always feel happiest after I've been doing skipping or other types of jumping.

Definitely do it mate, mine cost £4 and they're spot on. Most enjoyment I've had from cardio in a long time.
I'm in Newcastle on Monday so I'll pick some up. Do you just skip then or incorporate different things into the workout?

I do 3x10 minutes, 50s of regular skipping and then high-knees for 10s for each minute. Free weights to a plan after that and then 10m more skipping if I'm not completely fucked.

You can pick up skips from asda for a couple of quid. You can use it as a warm up for running, similar muscles used. Should probably do it more often.

If anyone is looking at getting some I would advise buying leather skipping ropes rather than any other material such as plastic. They are more hard wearing and also better for exercising with.
