Out of interest, why did you pack it in?
Have you considered that you may have spoken to people who smoke it and you have no idea that they do?
I don't smoke yet I know plenty who do. I also know some with very well respected, very well paid jobs.
I know you like to judge people and label them through your Jeremy Kyle blinkered view of society but much like drink or most other things, weed smokers cover a whole spectrum of society.

Big business made Marijuana illegal, pharmaceutical companies took on the baton, lots of money to be lost when people realise pharmaceutical companies aren't trying cure them, but manage sick people for profit.
In 1937 Hearst used his papers to push for the passage of the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Hearst was commended by a conference of judges, lawyers and politicians for "pioneering the national fight against dope" for the anti-marijuana editorials and articles in his papers.In later years, however, Hearst's "pioneering" has been widely viewed as mere pandering to the corporate interests of DuPont, as well as protecting his own substantial forest products interests against the industrial use of hemp.Hearst's editorial efforts with respect to the ban on hemp coincide with the court-ordered reorganization of the Hearst corporation's non-publishing assets, mainly mining and forest products, in 1937.
The same Mr Hearts, who's Grand daughter, Patty, became a bit of a terror..

moved in to rented house and lost my grow room as a result, still got the kit so not saying i wouldnt go back to it. Like all drugs legal or otherwise if you are weak enough it will consume you to some extent. Given the size of my stash after harvest(think 4 or 5 5l ice cream tubs
) i could have sat getting battered all day never leaving the house for a long time..................... but who on earth wants to do that 1 or 2 single skin spliffs a day was all i wanted or needed
your lungs for a start, strong weed fucks your brain and thats a fact. I'm not saying I'm a scientists now I've quit it but the difference is unbelievable, obviously I don't clam for a joint, I'm at least £100 per week neyter off, I don't smell, teeths whiter, got my sense of smell back, sleep better, can always find my keys and plus the fact its stopped me going for certain jobs due to testing.Its a miracle I have a half decent job without a criminal record etc. To say theres no effect is just burying your head in the sand.

At the very least it should be available as medicine. Just have to look at america and see how many people with debilitating diseases where it helps them a lot more than regular medicine which can have a whole host of side effects.
Just like all drugs alcohol included it will effect people differently due to the person themself, quntity, quality and delivery. Someone mentioned earlier going through £100 a week and feeling the bad effects from it but the same could be said of someone who drinks an excessive amount each week or eats an excessive amount of food. The weed in this country is mainly Indica which it's effects are what you would associate with weed...sedating and relaxing. Where as the Sativa strand is far more uplifting and makes you want to actually do something rather than just **** out.
With legalistion the delivery methods have improved to allow a wider range of people to be able to have it far more safely than the usual way of smoking a joint with baccy in. This can only be a good thing letting people consume it in the form of food, sprays etc.

It sounds like you were pretty dependent on it to be fair. Most users don't spend £100 a week for example. Plus the fact that it effects everyone differently it's a bit of a grey area in terms of negative effects on people's lives. I'm all for legalising it though.
