Kid's football - pitch sizes

Fairy nuff but it wasn't an issue with the club, more the pitch sizes used in the league. I don't really think I need to follow a procedure to ask another adult a question.

It's local issue. I think our parents had a choice a couple of seasons ago whether to go to 9-a-side league or 11-a-side league at under 11 they chose 11-a-side.

Not sure what the situation is now.

The local under 13 league plays on full-sized pitches and full-sized goals. Results from the weekend include 1-13 and 18-0. The game that I watched my son play was almost farcical. 2 lads on the oppo who were nearly 6 feet tall, a hoof from the keeper, steamroller through, *BANG* and a goal.

I've written an email to the local league, should I also send it to the FA?
No the wonder this country doesn't develop any decent players. If my bairn was playing, I'd just tell him to stand on the edge of the opposition 18 yard box whenever there's a goal kick...

He should be happy that you went to him.

I would have gone to the fa direct and balls to him.

I was going to ask you about that, re: your earlier post.

The kid's club is affiliated to the local junior league.

I can't see why I shouldn't send an email to who ever I want to without breaching a policy of some sort. It's not as if I was causing any harm.

Would the FA just send out a standard reply re: pitches?

I guess they should look onto it. I made a complaint direct to the fa about something that the league my kids are in.

The fa dealt with it and the issue I had was solved. I never once thought of going to the league as my thoughts were that the league already knew what they were doing was wrong, so it was the fa to sort it.

OK thanks a lot I shall measure the pitch and goals to check if they conform to guidelines. I might still ask the FA why they are so big though.

I've always played in goal and looking back playing 11 a side aged 11 was comical. I'd spend all match trying in vein to keep the ball out of the goal then a 6 foot adult would use a step ladder to take the nets down

As others have mentioned, the game at that age is quite depressing. The ball is lumped up to the big lad upfront, and strength is valued more than skill. This puts off a lot of skilled smaller players who feel they'll never make it as footballers because of their lack of physique.

I appreciate this isn't the case with all teams and I know a few coaches who encourage children to play football in the "right way" but equally, the emphasis on winning is still a massive problem in kids football, as well as parents and coaches berating kids for making mistakes which causes them to panic and lump it.

I know alot of what I've said isn't exactly new and is quite stereotypical, but it shows how little progress (in some respects) has been made in grass roots football.

I was put on a full size pitch from age 9 upwards.

Stuck at right back with no chance to get involved in a game apart from put the ball out for a throw if it came near me.

It's just wrong.

I'm 23 and still bitter.

It becomes about who is the physically fittest rather than who has the best skills,

Disagree. It's more about who's the biggest. When I was at school (long, long ago) the PE schoolteacher took one look at me and, because I was small I was shunted off to the back part of the field to playwith the other little kids and the fat lads (I turned into a fat lad but I wasn't one then :) )

I was the district 200 metres champion for 2 years and I played football and won tournaments but I did that with the Scouts and the Youth Club. I was considered not worthy of my school football team - although my older brother was because he as tall and a battering ram.

I'm not sure what to do next lads. Best to bite the bullet as the kid likes playing for the team?

Hello Freestein,

I'm afraid I now need an answer re: below?

If you are not prepared to confirm you will not contact the junior league whilst registered with our club or fail to respond at all we will be cancelling your registration with us.

We will of course give you a reasonable amount of time to find another Club for Junior Freestein. Although we would refund this month's fees (and you should cancel the standing order) I would be prepared to allow Junior Freestein to continue training and playing in games for free until such time he transfers to another club assuming this doesn't take any longer than 4 weeks from the date of this email.

Freestein, to save us both time please don't send me a lengthy e-mail about either pitch sizes or what an idiot I am. You're right on both!

I just need Yes I accept I cannot contact the junior league or No I don't??

Over to you.

Chairman

That is outrageous of him - I'm chairman of a small boys club here in Gosforth and would never, ever dream of speaking to a parent about that, especially with the conservative tone of your query in the first place. Are they a chartered standard club? Charitable status?

I'm fuming here

Well, why don't you start your own league instead of moaning like little bitch about it?

"I'm unhappy!... I'll write A LETTER!" ....oh no's nots a letter? That will show them.

If you're actually unsatisfied with your Childs sport, actually do something positive about it, don't sit on your arse like a disgruntled 70 year old Points of View watcher.

Take an active roll and do something useful you utter pussy.

Hope this helps xxx

I spoke to someone at Birmingham FA on Friday and he was a nice bloke but basically said that I could 'exacerbate' the situation. However he did say that if the registration was revoked for this reason that he's ask for an FA welfare officer to be involved.

Cheers.

I'm not a despotic imbecile so I won't bother. Ta anyway. xx

Also bear in mind keeper at that age might reach the halfway line about 1/2 the time - number of games I've seen where the opposition midfield mop up by standing 5 yards in front is frightening

Training on Friday was hilarious.

3 coaches. As they were dicked by about 12 goals the week before they are implementing a sweeper system. My son described it as a 1-4-2-1-2 or something. The keeper didn't touch the ball during the 30 minutes that I was there. A kid at the other end had to pretend to be the oppo and launched the ball as far as he could to test the new sweeper system. Each time a different coach went to speak to the keeper to offer advice about being ready for the ball, another coach from another team even had a minute or two talking with him.

Oh I can top that, my lad was playing Saturday, been at a local goalkeeping academy with an ex pro, really coming on.
His team played another that travelled down from Oban, hammered them 8-3.
Then it turns out the match was conceded as the manager of my sons team had sent the ref to the wrong pitches 4 miles away. Same fella regularly fucks up training and when he's there insists on playing his own lad in goals, despite none of the other coaches and players wanting him there.
Guy had allegedly quit in the summer as the other coaches were fuming with him, then he reappears as soon as they win a couple of games, utter prick.

I haven't involved my kid's mother yet .... she will either go mental at me or the chairman or possibly both.

The kid likes playing there, he's got some skills but is usually sub and is unlikely to get more playing time at other clubs. Plus a lot of kids from school are at the club and it's only 10 mins away to walk to games.

So everything apart from this has been good and I don't want to ruin it for the sake of my principles.
