“The decision is yours”

Roy Simpson, Chairman John Irvine, Chairman

Durham Coast Cricket League Durham County League
Game, set and match really. the DSL either accepts or it becomes a backwater league playing in a nothing competition.

Serves the DSL right really. Its crassness over the Durham City situation has led to this as well as their arrogance.

From my lads point of view durham city are big rivals at a junior level and either durham School and all of the privately educated lads will now play in a nothing junior league or they will have to break ranks and go with the durham cricket league, however given the loyalty that the DSL showed Durham City how can they do this?

I'm not only watching the DSL exploits but also those of Durham City.

This is what happens DSL when you allow one club to rule your roost.

My lad was shit on by Durham as a kid. It might sound bitter but it left its mark with me. I know a few lads at the club decent people but fuck them times have moved on they still think they are big players.

Their comeuppance is coming

Wouldnt surprise me if they drop the DSL in the shit and apply to the county or coast league before the end of june.

Wat happened then VOR - spill the beans!!

Best not get into detail on here

They have always been up their own arse mate

Good junior set up but a clique

Best not get in to deep as I know a few of them and they know me. We get on ok but they are an arrogant club and the roof is finally going to fall in

Turned out ok for my lad cricket wise anyway so fuck them ;)

They'll have to because the DCB will not be permitted to pick lads from clubs outside of the official ECB pyramid structure for the county teams which will mean that the cricket career of the rich kids from the private durham schools will effectively be over and they will play junior cricket in some backwater league.

They'll not allow that to happen. The only other choice woiuld be for those lads to try out at other clubs which woiuld spell the end for Durham City.

What a mess DCCC and the DSL have created for themselves.

I have absolutely no sympathy for either of them.

Hearing on the grapevine that Marsden may have become the first of the remaining DSL teams to jump ship/see sense. Rumours are flying about that they have submitted a resignation letter to the DSL with a view to applying to the DCCL/DCL in the next few weeks - in time to be on board when the merger happens.

Would imagine that this (if true) will trigger a few more defections.

I heard they looking NEPL 2 first ,if a space becomes available

Should also have added that they looking to leave the DSL

And forgot to add to above ,they deffo want to leave DSL

Interesting - the NEPL2 have reserved the right to take another two clubs if "the right ones" become available/interested so if Marsden applied there they would presumably be in with a chance.

Still, I think the key point is that they are leaving DSL and wherever they end up, it further weakens the position of DSL. They now have six clubs, not seven - and those six may now be realising that they're going to have to embrace change.

Only 5 clubs turned up for the DSL meeting and they have finally decided to disband and join the revolution or so im told

Is this the same Marsden who whinged their tits off when they were relegated from the Durham Senior League into the Durham County League a couple of seasons or so back ??

Two faced bastards !!

More likely leaving door open for NTSL clubs , they'll be no more clubs in NEPL 2 for 2013 season.
Think every other DSL clubs already tried that one !

Cant see any NTSL clubs applying now. They are a pretty insular bunch although it would probably do the likes of Swalwell, Shotley Bridge, Annfield Plain etc the world of good. Still never really understood these clubs shelling out thousands and thousands, and only even Swalwell of them lot ever winning it. Bit like the SPL now with Shotley and Swalwell fighting it out most years.

LoB informs me that the DSL clubs voted unamimously last night to merge with DCCL and DCL, on the proviso that (i) the league playing format is timed, not overs cricket; and (ii) overseas pros are permitted.

Timed cricket makes sense IMO although I assume there may be some opposition from some County League teams.

Also think the overseas pro point is pretty reasonable. Surely it makes sense to be as consistent as possible throughout the pyramid.

Would imagine the majority of Coast League teams would favour timed cricket, as would the DSL teams.

Agree that overseas pros should be allowed to ensure consistency throughout the ladder - and by that argument timed cricket should indeed be played; as that's what NEPL1 and 2 will be playing.

I assume the remaining 6 DSL sides would vote for timed, along with the Coast League clubs (correct me if I am wrong). Should be enough to get it through.

I suppose it is a strange one that Durham will have no overs cricket on a Saturday above the North East Durham League though!! Still I fully believe timed cricket is beneficial in terms of developing future first class players so I am happy enough!! Might see a few lads moving to the TSL though as there are always those people who are dismissive of the timed format (fair enough I suppose)
