For all of us there has to be a point where we go over the edge.

I've noticed a few, on here, starting to talk about top 6 finishes and Europe only to be knocked back by other posters. This is understandable as we don't want to be seen as deluded or getting carried away.

However there has to be a point where if we continue our progress, even the most pessimistic, just think, "Bollocks to it, we're really going to do something and I'm going to enjoy it."

What's your point?

competing against every side in the league home and AWAY , going away and having a right go like last week and no more of this i surrender at the top side . We seem to have taken care of a lot of this so far . The skunk result hopefully is freak result (most sides get 1 or 2 ) unfortunately ours was v that lot

I want to let go and say YES we are going to do something this season, i really really want to be a happy clapper, but this is Sunderland...the team i love but still Sunderland, if that makes any sense !!!

if you have a chance with 6-8 games to go it might be on but it will be a long hard season still and a few bad games/results can see it all change

I'm usually pretty optimistic anyway, but I was thinking about this the other day after Chelsea, I'm in New Zealand atm, I've missed the last 3 games and I'm going to miss the next 3, putting me back in the UK in time for Fulham, and if we've got 7 points or more from the next 3 games then I'll start to believe that we can actually achieve something this season. If we get 5 then I think we'll end up where I thought we would, somewhere 10th-12th, and if we get less than 5 then we'll end up lower than that. I'm very close to hoping that we might get into Europe, or have a run in the cup, or just be consistently good, but years of watching Sunderland is making me hold that back, so far.

Being in the European places, or very close to it, once we have played every side at least once.

the game against everton.if we could win that convincingly,we will be on our way.i could be a happy clapper no problem, because i'm optomistic about our future.there has been steady progress since keane arrived.
what's that coming over the hill?is it a monster?no,its a fecking magic carpet.

I always wanted to qualify for the intertoto but as that is no more I'll settle for the eufa cup even via the fair play league

It's hard to comment at this stage for me, going off last Sundays performance I'd tip us to win the title ;)

Let's hope we get a result against Everton, & then see how we do in the games leading up to Christmas. We've done well against the big clubs, now we have a run in with the mediocrity of the prem, habitually we seem to pick points up from big clubs and then lose them to lesser ones.

Taking our performances so far this season into account (barring that one) I'd say a top ten finish is well within our reach, we could hopefully be pushing towards a European place, I wouldn't like to state that we will be though. We'll know more by Christmas.

Im always optimistic.
I think we've had and will continue to have a good season, europe could happen why not. I actually think it will, but maybe i will have to wait another season but i think it will happen soon.
As for this season as i said its been good so far (bar one result) and if we do miss out on europe i think we will still finish top half which (which is what most people would be happy with at start of season).
One thing is for sure we are getting better and better.
And its a good time to be a mackem

I know we all say that but didn't we only beat our first top 4 team quite recently?

The tipping point for me, when I could really let myself go, would be if we went into the first FA Cup match in a position where we were in the top 6 ............ Bruce having the dilemma of risking his best players in the cup, while pushing for Europe, would push me over the edge.

As we know though, there's a way to go yet.

Look, if we win the next 3 games I'm right behind you mate. I actually think from what I have seen so far this season this is Arsenal's best chance to win the title in years and it is the best chance some teams have of smashing the top four's dominance. Barring a disaster I BELIEVE we can finish top 8.

Not if you back a decade or so

I might be thinking of the Premier League.

I know there was a stat somewhere about it and I think it was Liverpool at home where we broke our duck. I'm not big on stats me like

Thats a good thing to highlight IMO; traditionally we struggle to string back to back wins together, so if we ever start doing that I'd be over my tipping point.

real test is this home game against everton, if we play well, and win, even if its 1-0 and a close game, ill believe we can be a serious challenge for 7th.
