Your first ever awayday watching the lads

Mine was sometime in the late 70's away at Orient on the day of my brother's wedding in London. My other brother (RIP) took me. I thought we'd won 1-0 but can't find an 1-0 away win at Orient! The only other thing I remember is Shaun Elliot was fantastic in that game...

April '67 fulham away. Needless to say we lost 3 -1. Colin Suggett scored for us and our team inculded not so slim jim baxter and colin todd. I remember buying an SAFC rosette that day. Remember them?

Birmingham away maybe 2005 or 2006, think it was year we went down. Got beat 1 nowt Heskey scoring. Was absolutely shite from what I remember so set the tone for the years to come

Coventry February 20000. Can remember it was an awful ground and fans weren't that much better.

Think score finished Coventry 3 - 2 Sunderland

Was this the same game where Armstrong managed to knee the ball over their bar from half a yard out in the last minute? Typical of how that side played that season.
Possibly. I remember thinking we were unlucky to lose, but then again I was only 11 years of age. I was hooked on away games from that point onwards though and started going more often as I got a bit older. Always preferred them to home matches. Win, lose or draw, there was always a fun day to be had.

Are we still shite that far in the future? ;)

Following on from the earlier brilliant thread about your first ever lads game, most of them will have been home games. When was your first away game and how old were you and any memories etc.

Mine was 14/9/1974 for the short but exciting trip to York I think with John Tennick with me da looking after me. I was nine and a couple of months shy of my 10th birthday. I see bairns nowadays with a few seasons of away trips at the same age, but it’s a lot different now compared to then!

We won the game thanks to a very late Vic Halom scrambled effort in front of our huge support at what I presume was the Bootham Crescent End? Vic was my childhood hero anyway, but this cemented his position as my favourite ever SAFC player.

I was there that day - good place to drink afterwards (at age 17!).

First away game was the short trip from Low Fell to SJP in 1966, aged 9 - we won 3-0, so not a bad start! First proper away trip with mates was probably the semi-final at Hillsborough.

Mine was away at Boro on 2nd March 1974 it was (later than I thought), the season after we won the cup. Kerr and Tueart both sent off in the 50th minute. We lost 2-0.

That was a home game mate. Did your dad take you the long way to the ground ?

Hearts pre-season friendly in 2009, Darren Bent's debut. 14 years old and decided on the day to make the trip up. It was fairly shite from what I remember.
