Swansea February 1955 in the 5th round of the Cup. I was 10 and it was on a "sleeper excursion" with British Railways (as it was called at the time). We left Sunderland at 10.30 on the Friday evening and got into Swansea at 9.30 on the Saturday. There was a big freeze and the heating failed on the train so we found when we woke up that there were icicles inside the compartment. The pitch was icebound, Shack had a stinker (dropped for the replay) and Charlie Fleming had to rescue us to get a 2-2 draw. Coming back the heating had been repaired and was stuck on full with the windows stuck so it was like being in a sauna for twelve hours. I loved it.

Crystal Palace away March 1981.
Won 1-0. Big Joe Hinnigan header the winning goal.

Away fans in those days were stood in the corner section of the terrace where those Muppets the ultras are now.

There "casuals" were in the paddock/seats to our right. Clearly remember as clear today as the event itself a huge, black unit (palace fan) in his Pringle Jumper, roll neck sweater, bleached Lois Jeans get dragged out the paddock and frog matches round the cinder track right in front of the SAFC fans.
As he approached the chant "Chicken George, Chicken George, Chicken George" go up.
On hearing this he let out a huge, toothy grin and started waving at us with his one hand, the other being held behind his back as he must of thought we were celebrating him.....when infact he was having the piss ripped out of him:lol:.

Class day. Class result. Class moment:cool:

Man Utd away, 6 th round, 1964.

Monty should have stayed down

Still, a classic. A few days later, one for the ages at the replay

The Mags - October 1966. We won 3-0. Fairly sure they had just signed Wyn Davies and so were excited before the game about a new #9. We beat them at home later that season by the same score.

It was Preston away 16th Feb 1980. went on the Select coach iirc. we got beat 2-1. not that memorable except some knacker in our end through an empty bottle from the back of the stand (large, like the old pop bottles) which hit one of our fans (a kid).

Hull away Boxing Day 72 we won I was about 15 ..
We had the big side end with the railway station behind I remember we were in early then Hull came in the end to the right of us which had no separation ..when they started getting numbers in they charged us with me on the edge of the sunderland nearest them ....I was thinking WTF ... Then our lot just went for them and they stopped quickly and moved away ...
I remember the day for a cracking atmosphere and a win .. the first of many away games after that with 73-75 never missing a game home or away..
Tennants coaches picked us up at Hebburn next to where the Longship is now before going to Dundas street for the other folk..
Good times

Boro away in 1986. Was between Christmas and New year, couldn't see a thing, got beat 2-0 and when got home watched watership down for the first time.

Was a bad day, especially for Hazel :cry::cry:

First away was the same for me, dirty Leeds FA cup replay ‘67 (I was 10).
Being born, bred & living in Wakey I was taken by an older cousin ( Easington yacker) & the open end was packed with accents I only ever heard from my family. That was when I fell in love with SAFC.
Their record crowd, ended up sat nr the pitch.
I was at yr 1st game marra, just about my 18th birthday, shocking state ;) but a cracking day out ( & even closer than our home games for me)
Replay for me also but at booth ferry park.
