Boro away in the League Cup 1987. Got beat 2-0 after winning the first league 1-0.

First in the league was against West Brom about 1989, 1-1. Can’t remember much other than Marco equalising late on. I think Goodman may have scored for them shortly before, but I may be wrong on that.

FA Cup 1973 at Notts County 1 - 1. That was my first

I was at my last a coupla seasons ago v Villa. No desire to travel to away games any more.

It's a gargantuan effort to turn up at the SOL TBH

Bradford 1987 it was the return of Bob Stokoe. I was 15 and my Dad thought we'd be safer sat in with the Bradford fans in the main stand. Both times we scored I got proper evil looks when I cheered :)

Following on from the earlier brilliant thread about your first ever lads game, most of them will have been home games. When was your first away game and how old were you and any memories etc.

Mine was 14/9/1974 for the short but exciting trip to York I think with John Tennick with me da looking after me. I was nine and a couple of months shy of my 10th birthday. I see bairns nowadays with a few seasons of away trips at the same age, but it’s a lot different now compared to then!

We won the game thanks to a very late Vic Halom scrambled effort in front of our huge support at what I presume was the Bootham Crescent End? Vic was my childhood hero anyway, but this cemented his position as my favourite ever SAFC player.

Hull away 1976......won 4-1.....approx 22.000 Sunderland fans there

Mine was at Sid James Park, a 1-1 draw 4th February 1990 a few months before we went back there and famously beat them 2-0 in the play offs (I wasn't there for that one sadly.)
Pushed about into lines by police on horses and nearly trampled by one as we waited to go through the turn stiles into the Leazes end which was tiny back then. From memory I think Marco scored then later on Mark McGee equalised with a header.
Went down to Sheffield Utd and Barnsley as well that season as we were chased promotion.

around 1968. I was 18. West Ham away. Got beat 8-0.

WHU had Hurst, Moore and Peters in their side. Hurst scored 6.

Mine as well, family trip to London went with my dad and uncle I was 10yo.
Wish I had gone to Harrods with the woman;)
That was the first of three away games I've been to in my life that has seen us shift 8 goals!

Man Utd away fa cup 96
Always remember when Butt scored I'd never heard a noise like it. (Quite tepid in reality but never been amongst 40k before)
However the Sunderland end was immense from start to finish. Chamberlain should have punched cantonas head off on second goal before letting him score a header from 2yards

Notts County in ‘93 - Just after we’d signed Phil Gray etc and they injured themselves in the car crash.

Got beat 1-0 think Mark Draper scored from about 30 yards.

Just remember how bad we were

I think i as at that one, went on the train with me mates, i also think at half time they came around the pitch with a blanket held out (could have been a sheet) to collect coins for a new stand or summat :lol::lol::lol:

After Shiny strangled the little shit Speedie at Roker

I went down without a ticket and ended up in The Kippax Paddock. I cried that day

We went down with tickets for the Kippax, arrived 20 minutes late (still 100's milling about) and somehow ended up getting stuffed in behind the goal in all the confusion :)

Arrived late for that one as well :) Fortunately they were selling half price second half tickets in the ticket office so I got in their side stand , along with quite a few other MLFs.

It was a present for my 16th birthday, Dad took me and my brother to Burnley under Peter Reid when we needed a point to be sure of staying up. Something like 8,000 Sunderland fans there, we got the point thanks to a Martin Smith or Phil Gray equaliser, don't remember which it was now.

Very, very windy day that like, on a Sunday IMSC.

Every little village on route, in the area seemed to be rammed with SAFC getting the beers in.

Mine was sometime in the late 70's away at Orient on the day of my brother's wedding in London. My other brother (RIP) took me. I thought we'd won 1-0 but can't find an 1-0 away win at Orient! The only other thing I remember is Shaun Elliot was fantastic in that game...

Was it not 2-0 Bobby Kerr both?
I got thrown out due to problems with West Ham supporters!

Notts County away December 23rd 1978.

Can't remember much about the match but can remember watching Tora Tora Tora on the telly when I got back !

Always amazes me how people can remember their first home/away game ( unless of course they're recent) I have no idea who either of my firsts were, me Da used to take me to Roker as a child early sixties and I started going on my own around 1967/68 my first away game is just as vague a memory, but I definitely went to Notts County in the third round of the FA Cup 1973 and Man City away in the same competition, we did do some league game aways in seasons prior to this but like I said oldtimers disease prevents me from recalling them.
