Following on from the earlier brilliant thread about your first ever lads game, most of them will have been home games. When was your first away game and how old were you and any memories etc.

Mine was 14/9/1974 for the short but exciting trip to York I think with John Tennick with me da looking after me. I was nine and a couple of months shy of my 10th birthday. I see bairns nowadays with a few seasons of away trips at the same age, but it’s a lot different now compared to then!

We won the game thanks to a very late Vic Halom scrambled effort in front of our huge support at what I presume was the Bootham Crescent End? Vic was my childhood hero anyway, but this cemented his position as my favourite ever SAFC player.

Crystal Palace-24/8/85. The 3rd game of the fantastic start under Lawrie Mac where we lost the first 5 games of the season without scoring. We only got beat 1-0 here mind so the best result of the 5! I can remember it was very sunny and Clive Walker had a scissor like kick go just wide....that's it! I was 8.

Wembley against Swindon 1990?

What a shit day it was.

First away was the same for me, dirty Leeds FA cup replay ‘67 (I was 10).
Being born, bred & living in Wakey I was taken by an older cousin ( Easington yacker) & the open end was packed with accents I only ever heard from my family. That was when I fell in love with SAFC.
Their record crowd, ended up sat nr the pitch.
I was at yr 1st game marra, just about my 18th birthday, shocking state ;) but a cracking day out ( & even closer than our home games for me)

Mine was the following seasons trip to York. 4-1 iirc. Didn’t see a single goal.

Wimbledon. Late 90s.

Got there at half-time.

We got beat.

Aston Villa around a similar time, the coach broke down at Villa Park.

Middlesbrough we had double booked tickets.

I’m a curse.
