hope that puts to bed the myth that barca would walk the premierleague

everysingle set piece stoke would put in their box would lead to a goal, they were outmuscled and looked tiny even compared to arsenal who are the weak team in the premierleague

not to bash them too much though because they do play amazing football and still are ONE of the best teams in the world, until they win the champions league consistently then they cannot be considered as the best

Barcelona are consistently poor (results wise) in Europe under Pep. They dominated the game for around 2/3, as shown by the number of passes completed and superiority of possession.

I think the big turning point was the withdrawal of Villa. Pep should have taken off Pedro, who was having as poor a game as Walcott was for Arsenal. Changed the game.

Overall, Barca are still 'in front' imo, as they are imperious at home, and the away goal is absolutely vital.

Haven't they won the champions league twice under Pep?

Stoke wouldn't even get in Barcelona's half to have any set pieces from dangerous areas.

FFS Barca aren't the Harlem Globetrotters you know.

Not even from kick-off?

Don't be so pathetically pedantic. Espanyol are Spain's 'Stoke' and got hammered 5-1 off them. Look at Barca's average possession this season and tell me how Stoke would go about beating them.

I sort of didn't like Barca becuase of the hype but watching it yesterday i thought it's not Messi's fault people go over the top about how good he is.

It was quite a revelation and I enjoyed the game more:lol:

Still enjoyed Arsenal's two goals.

I can imagine Delap and Whitehead dominating Xavi and Busques.

You have a very dark and disturbing imagination marra. I wouldn't want to be in the head of someone who could picture that

So even they got in Barca's half? Unless it was a Beckham-type wonder goal.

Pedantry. Yawn.

The fact remains, Stoke would be about as much of a challenge to Barca as we would ie none.

Their midfield don't dominate anyone. Stoke don't play like that. It's a percentage game.
Awful to watch, but would cause anyone problems at times.

I am not being pedantic. I am arguing a point.

It was claimed that Stoke wouldn't get into Barca's half. The implication being that they would cause Barca no problems at all.

I disagree. I think they would, certainly at home. Stoke normally cause Arsenal problems so why not Barca?

Because Messi, Villa et al would run rings round dinosaurs like Danny Collins and Robert Huth.

They'd be 3-0 up by the time Delap had the opportunity for a long throw.

so why dont arsenal murder them everyyear

its pretty obvious barca are a lot better than stoke, but its a bit over the top to say they wouldnt get out of their half

Well of course I was exaggerating but people seem to think that because Barca are a small side they would terrorized in the air by Stoke. This is despite the fact they've got the likes of Busquets, Abidal, Puyol, Pique and Dani Alves in their ranks; none of whom ever shirk physical battles.

I also can't imagine Guardiola leaving the likes of Xavi and Messi in the Stoke box either like we did a la Sessegnon and Malbranque. They'd have at least 3 men on the half way line meaning Stoke wouldn't be able to bully them like they did to a team like ourselves.

Well I didn't say that they wouldn't get into their half. What I would say is Barcelona keep the ball far, far better than Arsenal, so that comparison is fairly redundant. Arsenal are much more of a counter attacking side than Barca.

Barca would, undoubtedly, play sides like Stoke off the park 99 times out of 100. They would probably have 75%+ possession, so while Stoke would get into Barca's half, it would be occasional. Perhaps they'd score a goal, but that's about it.

Imagine that Barca midfield and forward line up against the cloggers Stoke have.

Why do people keep comparing Barca and Arsenal as if they are the same? They are very different sides, with different approaches. Arsenal never keep possession in the way, or for the amount of time that Barca do, in any fixture.
