What are the rules in relation to the above type of message? Is it a certain number of posts allowed within a particular time limit? I could understand it if applied to a particular thread (for a cooling down period) but it seems to be across the whole forum.

Back in the day, you used to only be able to post 90 messages in 24 hours, so you sometimes got to the point where you were "prolific" in certain times of day, where you'd have to wait 5 minutes for your 24h ago posts to time out.

Nah, sorry. I lost track not long after the Contributor thing came in and I got a ban within a short period of time after becoming a Contributor.

I never get close to the limit now.

Not sure of the values, but its a rolling hourly limit to prevent spamming.
