Yippee we got a draw

Thought England played very well, were organised and had a real desire to go for it.

France have the better starter 11, no question about it. If England had tried to play possession football they would have lost.

Instead, they played defensive counterattacking football, which worked a treat. I also think that being the underdog suited England yesterday. When they play Sweden on Friday, England will be favorites and more often than not, this is when they falter.

That said, the pressure on Sweden will be immense after losing last night, so I'd tip England to win. However a draw will mean it going to the final group game and I think Ukraine will prove tougher than Sweden.

I agree, i'm not saying we wouldn't beat them but there isnt many better defensive teams than italy but theyre also quality at going forward

Croatia more likely to come at us as well, giving us ample opportunity to sit and counter.

I haven't read the thread, I don't like the Sun, I like Hodgson and I liked the tactics (playing to our strengths with the players at our disposal) and think we deserved the draw buuuuuuut if England had produced the identical performance under Capello he would be getting slated for it, by the Sun, by the rest of the media and by the majority of fans - I'm practically certain of it.

Whether that's because of expectations being reduced and well managed or whether Hodgson's been afforded a clean slate (no bad thing), I don't know.

See the old possession stats are getting wheeled out again. Anyone got an idea what the pass completion rates were n'arl? They are always worth a giggle or two.

The point is that if you give the top teams that much of the ball, most of the time they will beat you

they can beat us most of the time if they want. as long as they dont beat us this time thats fine

I thought it was a textbook away style performance usually seen by a bottom half Premier League team trying to get a point away at somewhere like Arsenal.

Defend solidly and try and make the most of set pieces.

It will be interesting to see how Roy sets up for the Sweden and Ukraine games – surely we have enough pace going forward to take the game to Sweden so I’d be disappointed if we sat back on Friday.

We looked well organised compared to the utter shambles we displayed under the supposedly superior Italian influence.

france 92% pass rate with 654 passes
england 83% pass rate with 309 fewer passes than France

1-1 all that matters

good result for us
