Cut the lad some slack. He's bound to tail off a bit given he's been carrying the whole midfield all season.

Depending on the upcoming court appearances i'd get Johnson in there with him and Kirchoff. Peddle the useless Cattermole.

You brought up Leicester!

As an example of how a losing mentality can be turned around. You say players are only human but lets be fair they aren't "normal" humans......they're sportsmen at the pinnacle of their chosen profession and although some are better than others psychology plays a huge part in defining success or failure (obviously relative to ability).

I can't accept that tiredness is an excuse......it's merely a symptom of failure and an acceptance by players that they can't possibly do any more. It's human nature and we all do it.....we make excuses for not doing something. The most honest statement I've heard from a Sunderland player was Adam Johnson saying a couple of years ago that he'd looked at himself (New year resolution and all that) and accepted that he could do more......he was PL footballer of the month shortly after and played exceptionally well FOR A WHILE........ then reverted back to his previous ways. We need to tap into that "can do more" psychology before its too late.

What is required for him to regain his early season form?
Simple things like 1st touch and a simple pass out of danger seem difficult for him now and this was early on in the game, he looked dead on his feet by the end.

It's his first season in the English premier league playing in a team that has struggled all season..overall I think he's done great..
