Yann M'vila - target or not?

It wasn’t even that long ago we learned a tough lesson of re-signing a fan favourite based purely on sentimentality.

There is a bit of a difference mind.

Defoe was 40 and had played 9 mins for Rangers since August (369 mins in the entire season before that) and signed for us in January.

M’Vila is 33 and played 3690 mins last season, but admittedly not at all since May (as far as I can tell) since he doesn’t have a club (he was playing 90 mins regularly last season though)

I agree but I don't think many are paying attention to that. They are simply remembering how good he was for us, without considering what he's been like recently.

As it stands we only have 2 players in the squad who are holding midfielders(I’m not including Evans who probably won’t be match fit for months). I don’t want to see them flogged to death having to play every game, and then there’s injuries.
4 months to get match fit? Really?
When is the last time he played a competitive game ?
But the reality is we don’t sign players of his age anymore it simply doesn’t fit what the club want now.

14th May according to Transfermarkt
So approx 5 months without a game?
Canny that we are even discussing this to be fair, but in general I don’t want ex players at the end of the career to return anymore.
Would be class if he came and proved me wrong mind, but I’d be amazed if we even made an enquiry for him.

Danny Bathh and Corey Evans were over 30 when we signed them I believe. Just because we haven’t signed any older players for a while doesn’t mean we won’t sign any more.

Has he been playing regularly?

Bradley Dack late 20s.

We don’t just sign kids constantly.

M villa won't come back here ffs.
It's crazy on here at times.
Probably this ... wages age being the two primary issues. Kld might have spoken with him ...but it didn't go very far and there is probably good reason why.

Loved yann ... tragic we never signed him permanently in his prime

What’s all the fuss? He was a good player for us for a short period of time about 7 years ago. I really don’t understand our fans sometimes. Would he even get in our team ahead of Neil and Ekwah?
Well given one of them definitely won’t be playing in our next game and the other might not be and we don’t really have anyone else to play that position I think it’s fair to say he’d get a game now and then.

Not that I think he’s signing mind.

We were interested in that Portuguese DM on loan, which would have been
Perhaps is considered an upgrade on Evans, who you would assume, Mowbray doesn't fancy too much anyway (considering he sold him once already.)

No comparison. Think about it. Defoe was 40 and hadn’t played much football. M’Vila was playing Champions League last season. Any chance to sign him should be taken as our team currently has a very soft underbelly, highlighted by four defeats already, three of them totally avoidable, the fourth one a tactical mess by the manager after the sending off of one player although TM set us up as though we’d lost three!

Him and Ekwah would be formidable.

There’s obviously a comparison when no one has seen him play for half a decade.

And no one would be talking about him if he hadn’t been a great player for us in the past.

That’s all I’m really saying.
