Wycombe game

just play the bastard man. the physiological benefit of going top of the league, playing a weakened team, with a few first teamers still out injured, would be massive. if we don't win, then it will be nowt to do with mclaughlin and them not playing, it will be because the starting 11 have played shite

plus saturday games are much better for going to the match.

plus its 11 days till the match. shite for away fans and exiles.

just get on with it sunderland, play, win, go top, jobs a goodun

To be honest as much as I want it to go ahead I don’t think people are thinking this through.
If it does get cancelled think about the fixture congestion later in the season. Some of these players will be playing 3 games a week and could possibly struggle and derail the promotion push.
If we have the squad it needs to be used cos at some point we will get stretched and they will all need to play their part.
For all we know McLaughlin could get injured with Scotland and we will need a back up plan anyway.

yes they are.

I'll never support any decision that sees the supporters lose out.

Me too. I'd rather we didn't do anything that would lessen our chances of winning aswell. Sky changing the day and time of the kick off only does one of those things tho obviously.

There are loads of free mid week slots left and its so far just one game in hand. Pompey not playing so even if we postpone its still just one game in hand.

I don't buy this 'well McLaughlin could get injured anyway'. Yes he could, but at the moment he is fit. Why play games deliberately without our strongest side when we don't have to?

I will be inconvenienced as I hate night time games (I work in Sunderland and therefore have to go straight to the match, drive, don't have a beer and get home at 11:30 normally), but if it means we play with our best team then so be it. We could and probably will be without Flannagan as well who has been brilliant recently. To go into a match without those two when we don't have to is a stupid idea. Promotion this season is critical to the future of the club and we can't afford to take bravado type gambles just because people don't want a blank Saturday.

Not for me marra, momentum. Ross spoke about that last week.

Momentum can be lost as well as maintained mate, and its more likely lost if you field weakened sides.

Can't see us being that weakened marra.

Do we not maintain 'momentum' by giving the whole team an extra weeks rest and keeping our winning side on the pitch?

Those moaning about the 3 games a week later in the season are missing the 10 day break our players could get going into the busy Christmas period!! Its more actually as most of the first team will not play at Morecambe.

We could be without McLaughlan, Flannagan and Gooch mate. That's more than 25% of the side and three of the better players to boot. Crazy to play if they are missing.

The first team players who have to play at Morecambe due to the rules of the competition would also face three games in a week including two away if we play Wycombe and then will have to face that game without some of our best players. Like I said it would be f***ing mad to play that game.

We would be almost forced to drop all the call ups for the Port Vale game as well as if we don't everyone else will have to play at Morecambe (due to the rules on starters), so we also weaken our FA Cup side and Donald has already said cash from an FA Cup run is important to us. We are in the third tier and need to get out. A cup run could pay for a player that gets us out, playing our best team might get us out. Playing our reserves because a few fans are bored when we are not playing on a Saturday probably won't get us out.

Club will look silly if we play this game and drop points. Wycombe have already drew at Portsmouth and Fleetwood this season, it's not a gimme.

Yep. Some very arrogant posts on here assuming we steamroller them with Ruiter and Ozturk on the pitch and go top of the league. We have been winning games narrowly which is a good thing, but we haven't steamrollered anyone even with our full side out and it won't happen with a weakened team.

Only 6 days between the Port Vale match and Wycombe as well which makes it worse for the rest of the squad. That is worse than three games in a week later in the season when we would access to a full squad and 7 days in between.

I'd personally ditch the international call up postponement rule. It's a total joke. We whinge when Sky moves game 24 hours back/forward 5 weeks in advance but everyone's seemingly happy for us to cancel games with a week's notice because McLaughlin's away with Scotland. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

I presume you've never had an issue with Sky moving games for the tele then as you're seemingly happy for us to cancel games at a week's notice?

Sky moving games is something that we have no control over. Being an exile the same as many others it has effected me and others on numerous occasions.
In this instance it is within the clubs gift and as such we have the right to seek a postponement if the call up criteria is met.
I don’t see why the club should disadvantage themselves.
There will be a fair few on here up in arms of the game is played with a weakened team and points are dropped.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree.

Aye tbf mate but what does it say about our squad depth if we can't handle a couple of players missing . It's not even Portsmouth that have requested their game called off it's charlton.
Personally I think we can handle Wycombe with the players we have left over. Remember for the Blackpool game we had injuries and suspensions with power, Loovens Hume and I think catts?. Loovens can fill in for Flanagan easy imo

Fair points but I’d personally not run the risk if we lose the keeper and Flanagan and possibly the likes of Gooch and Oviedo.

All about opinions though.

Who said it's a gimme? ..so if Mclaughlan plays it's a gimme?

Hold on, who are being arrogant on here? Even Ross said he might think twice about cancelling game.

Wycombe fan back again. I can see both sides of the argument for you guys, but I would love the game to be on. Planned the trip up already and everything. Obviously you can't make the decision until the international squads are announced, but many of our fans are getting irritated by the uncertainty of the whole situation - me included. Ross saying that the match would preferably be on has encouraged a few to organise travel, so it would be a real killer if it was called off now.

Footballing-wise, we'll be going up there without expectation of a result of any kind, but also don't expect to roll us over at the same time - we'll be massively up for it! Our performances this season have been pretty good on the whole (better than I was expecting) and an Ainsworth team will never get limply brushed aside - as shown by our results against Pompey and Peterborough. We've only lost one match by more than a goal this season, so we're nearly always in a competitive game! Fingers crossed that it is on!

I'm sick of people spreading this horseshit. Read the facts.

Ruiter was very good in the Stoke checkatrade game and it would be good to keep him sharp if he is needed, Loovens or Ozturk might suit playing against Akinfenwa more than Flanagan (go lump for lump!) Oviedo isn't even starting games anyway atm and Gooch has been feeling his hammy recently so him not playing for us (or America if he isn't 100%?) would give Sinclair another chance to play with Maja and try and get something going between them, positive spin needed not hand wringing, get it played Jack!

Agree with this. We've already lost players through injury and suspension this season for matches, and this is no different. We've got a squad, why not give them a chance to claim a permanent place.

Our squad minus the internationals is strong enough to beat any team in this league. Of course it won't be an easy game - very few games are, but our bench options are more than capable of coming in and doing a job.

Ozturk / Loovens > Flanagan
Ruiter > McLaughlin
Sinclair > Gooch

You still have the likes of Maja, McGeady, Power (back from suspension), Cattermole, Mcgeough and Maguire on the field. I'd back us all day long.

No disrespect to Wycombe as well, but wasn't 09 one of their top players? He still wouldn't be in our starting XI, even with the internationals away.

When is this decided? Just realised I'm on call and have to go through the grovelling of a swap if it's on. Cheers
