Don’t know mate I’m not from Sunderland. Living in Berlin I can confirm there’s loads and in the main they’re a great bunch of lads, make a hell of a Döner and do a belter haircut.

The lend lease was during the actual war years and used to pay for or war time economy, the money after the war was not enough to pay off lend lease and use to rebuild our damage infrastructure this article is very harsh considering the problems the post war goverment faced. Bombed damage building had to be repaired or replaced, demobilisation of the arm forces paying servicemen to wait in country all over the globe to return home and also the commitment to the heroes returning home to set up the welfare state

Think quite a few claim to be Kurds for refugee status entitlement. For oppressed and discriminated against minorities they certainly tend to name their businesses after the famous cities and sites of their oppressors.

sorry, i should have said the Anglo American Loan which followed Lend lease and was'nt actually much more than the Marshall Aid money we received (unless you're still going to claim we never received any)

and its funny how german Marshall Aid (2/3 of the amount we received) was enough for them to rebuild their (far worse) bomb damaged country

defence spending was still 16% of gdp in 1946, and didnt drop under 6% till the 1970's

we wanted our empire, we wanted our welfare state, and we wanted our great power military - and the simple fact ios we could'nt afford it all

We didn’t go in with the rest and lost out big style in the rebuilding of war ravaged Europe. Look at our balance of payments and trade records 1950 -1970, you probably will not but, if you take the trouble to compare Germany with us you will see what a great opportunity was missed. At the same time we were just getting by and living standards were falling behind the rest.

Sounds like we've been missing out on opportunities since we supposedly "won" the war......

Nobody wins war. Unlike those on the continent we were not invaded, this gave us a false sense of security. Truth is two world wars in 25 years broke us, we went from number one in the world financial league to a runner up who patheticaly tries to be a superpower. Those days are gone, but that doesn’t stop rogues from trying to persuade the ordinary Joes for their own personal gain.
