Worst SAFC manager: MON or Bruce?

Had far more better times under Bruce then MON, we thought Bruce's football was shite...then we saw what MON was capable of

we have had worse than both of course but MON was worse than Bruce

Neither as bad as Wilkinson, Sbragia, McMenemy

To be fair to Sbragia he was on a hiding to nothing, kept us up and that was what he was asked to do but there was little he could do in 6 months with the players he had to work with.

At least Bruce tried to play football most of the time, MON just let the opposition play, and tried to play on the counter with possibly the slowest most unfit side in the league, bizarre.

Spot on. MON biggest disappointment as a Manager in all my time supporting the lads. I expected good things, I got absolutely abysmal

It is worth remembering that MoN informed the owner that the squad needed a complete overhaul. Which is exactly what has happened.
That said, Di Canio is still hamstrung by the remnants of the Bruce regime hampering his progress because of the wage bill.

The depressing reality is that both MON and Bruce are amongst out best managers of the last 50 years.

Both easily better than most managers we've had in the last 30 years.

MON did a worse job than Bruce, obviously. Mind, if I had to have one for the next 10 years, I'd pick MON over Bruce. MON's tenure was an anomaly when compared to the rest of his career, Bruce did exactly what Bruce does. Good start, panic, crushing winless runs.

Bruce.

Simply because of the 'summer of shame' of 2011.

That transfer window has set us back years. £8m on Wickham. £6m on Craig f***ing Gardner.

Nine of the eleven he signed that summer are still here collecting no doubt an obscene wage; only O'Shea can be considered as a relative success from that disastrous bout of transfer activity.

O'Neill came in and gave it a go at polishing a turd, he managed it for a short while but he obviously had lost/was losing interest in the game by the second season - as a once proud and successful manager he was clearly giving up hope - the shower he was having to deal with no doubt gave him little reason to reignite his optimism.

We're still lumbered with most of that shit - seven of them involved this Saturday. Bruce, you big fat cunt, you knew what you were doing that summer - totally screwing us over.

I really dont get these threads trawling over the past, both would have relegated us if they'd kept the job, why on earth are people bothered about the level of their individual short-comings?

Because it still affects us now perhaps?

Nee good crying over spilt milk and all that. What"s done is done, we potentially have a very exciting period ahead but a lot of supporters seem to have pesimism so in-grained that they'd prefer to whinge about the past. Personally just dont get it, just my oppinion.

Howard Wilkinson man  FFS[DOUBLEPOST=1377592062][/DOUBLEPOST]

I remember Matt Piper (RIP) mentioning he was going to play them a video when he came. After they'd watched they were going to be playing freeflowing, pressure-free, sublime football. Naturally the players were expecting some sort of footballing expertise - highlights of the Brazil team from the 70s.

Swans flying in formation.
