Worst band ever

Not my cup of tea TBH, though I liked their first couple of singles, Ferry always sounds and looks, like a man with a severe case of the runs.
Strange, and good, how peoples tastes differ. Saw him on a solo tour, and he was outstanding. One of the gigs that still sticks in my mind. Surprisingly good.

It all just sounded like rock to me, take Rotten's vocal off a track and overdub a rock singer and it wouldn't sound any different to rock, It's the vocal delivery that makes it what it is, imo.
Very similar, but also the lyrics of alot of the stuff produced then was trying, and sometimes succeeding, in sending a message.
Liked quite alot of it while it lasted.

Maybe the majority of English folks that never looked past the British scene.

Ask a New York punk fan whose genre it is.

As for "perfecting it"...

And then there's Velvet Underground, Patti Smith, New York Dolls, Ramones...

Suicide was the first band to be called 'punk', iirc , and they were 100% synth.

It was..i mean listen to some early Motorhead stuff..not a great deal of difference to what the Damned were putting out early doors..for what punk started out as in this country..the 'anyone can do it'..'three chords and you're away'..sort of thing..within a year of New Rose being released the Pistols were putting out a very good well produced rock album..after the initial outburst of punk to me it was the fashion and in some cases the politics of some bands..The Clash for example..that carried it forward..i still love it like..SLF tomorrow night..can't wait!!

Me too, just saying, I just look at it like rock, nothing groundbreaking going on, and I've said that many times on here, but, I suppose when you grow up with stuff, it's different to a kid hearing it for the first time, plus, I guess you don't take any notice of the hype ether. but I still play a Clash etc, CD now and then.

They were bloody awful..i borrowed that first album of theirs and honestly thought there was something wrong with my hi-fi..i though the needle was knackered or stuck or something.

Communication breakdown, take Plant's voice off and stick a punk vocal on there, it would pass as pure punk imo.

Television, Richard Hell and the Voidoids All part of that New York early Punk Scene.
I loved early Genesis. But, that last tour with Collins barely able to move. Just pack it in you greedy old farts.

They were like an experimental artsy type of duo, the type of thing @mini-x2 drools over, so crap really.

The lad i borrowed the album off was raving about it..bit embarrassing when i gave him it back..'did you like it then'..'erm..it was different'..meaning completely and utterly shite.

Q magazine readers, IMO, they sucked up all the hype that, that rag put out and believed every word.

Punk started officially in New York in 1974, a development of the protopunk garage rock scene that started in the late 1960's in NE USA.
See tho punk as it is described in the USA is what I would describe as clever art school stuff, Patty Smith, Talking Heads et al (apart from the sainted Ramones who are literally gods) punk in UK was a pure visceral angry, political, social movement, with a touch of a saucy seaside post card, so although both sides of the Atlantic had their punk movements it is like punk apples and punk oranges, two completely different things. Think I sound like a pseudo trendy music journalist, but that's what I think. And poster who said Ramones were worst band ever.....i'm coming for you

Agree with all of that, then you ruined it with your Ramones remark😉🤣🤣🤣
